August 30, 2013 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Clinton LumberKings News Release
Clinton, IA - Tyler Pike has been named to the 2013 Midwest League Post-Season All-Star Team, which honors the best player at each position across the league. Pike was selected as the top left-handed starter in the Midwest League this season.
Pike, 19, thrived in his first year of full-season pro ball in the LumberKings' rotation. As of August 30th, the left-hander made 22 starts with Clinton, posting a 7-4 record with a 2.37 ERA. Among qualifying pitchers, Pike's 2.37 ERA is second in the league, behind only Bowling Green's Dylan Floro (1.81). Pike limited opponents to a batting average of .194, best in the league among starters. The Florida native struck out 90 batters compared to 73 hits allowed in 110 1/3 innings. Pike was also one of four LumberKings chosen to represent the Western Division in the Midwest League All-Star Game in June.
The Seattle Mariners drafted Pike with a 3rd round supplemental (126th overall) selection in the 2012 June draft out of Winter Haven (FL) High School. Pike had originally committed to play baseball at Florida State University, but chose to start his professional career with the Mariners' organization. Pike spent 2012 with the AZL Mariners, going 2-1 with a 1.78 ERA in 11 starts.
The Clinton LumberKings, Midwest League Affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, play at Ashford University Field. For the full 2013 schedule, season ticket and group party information, merchandise and more, call the LumberKings at 563-242-0727 or visit www.lumberkings.com.
