Titans split four-game week
February 20, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ - The Trenton Titans split both of their two-game sets with the Reading Royals and Johnstown Chiefs to remain in fifth place in the North Division, just one point behind the Chiefs.
On Wednesday against the Royals, Mark Lee notched the first goal of the contest for the third consecutive game while Jim Henkel picked up his tenth of the season to give Trenton a 2-0 lead after one period of play. T.J. Kemp added a power play goal in the third period for Reading, but Scott Stirling's 29-save performance helped the Titans hold for a 2-1 victory.
Two nights later the Titans hosted Johnstown for the first of two matches at Sovereign Bank Arena. Jim Henkel and Kiel McLeod were able to get the puck past Morgan Cey to help the Titans stake a 2-1 edge heading into the first intermission. Dmitri Tarabrin picked up two goals in the second in span of 1:55 to make it 3-2 in favor of Johnstown before McLeod notched a shorthanded goal with 5.7 seconds left in the stanza. In the third, it was Steve Cygan who picked up the game-clinching power play goal to down the Titans 4-3.
In the rematch on Saturday, Trenton took another 2-0 lead on tallies by McLeod and Matt Maglione. Once again, the Chiefs battled back. This time it was two goals by Zbynek Hrdel in the second period to make it 2-2. Chris Pittman would notch the eventual game-winner seven minutes later, while McLeod also picked up his second of the evening and Peter Tormey chipped in an empty-netter to make the final score 5-2.
Trenton traveled to Reading on Sunday to face the Royals. This time it was the Titans who fell behind 2-0 on a power play goal by Doug Christiansen and Dany Roussin's twentieth of the year. Ned Havern provided the lone goal for Trenton with a power play tally in the second period, but the Reading would go onto notch the next three goals - finishing 3-of-6 on the man-advantage - to pull away with the 5-1 victory.
The Titans take the ice for another four-game week beginning with another road game against the Royals on Tuesday, February 21. Trenton will then face the Wheeling Nailers for a home-and-home series starting at SBA on Friday, February 24 and ending at WesBanco Arena on Saturday, February 25. The Titans wrap up the weekend on Sunday, February 26 at Johnstown with a contest versus the Chiefs.
