Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release


Pensacola, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots returned home today, bringing with them a win, a tie and three points. This brings their record to 17-28-6 and 40 points.

- Tuesday, February 14 - Ice Pilots @ Charlotte Checkers 6-4 LOSS
The Ice Pilots began their 4 game road trip in Charlotte where Mark Rooneem, Pete Gardiner, Chris Heid and Nate Metcalf all scored goals for the Pilots. They went 2 for 8 on the power play with 25 shots on goal. David Cann was the losing goalie stopping 36 of 42 shots bringing his record to 0-2-1.

- Friday, February 17 - Ice Pilots @ Augusta Lynx 6-5 OT LOSS
The Ice Pilots made an amazing come back against the Lynx throughout the entire course of the game. The Pilots scored two goals in the 1st and 2nd periods tying up Augusta's 4 goals in the 1st. Adam Courchaine scored a goal at the 2:23 mark in the 3rd period giving the Ice Pilots the first lead in the game. Augusta came back at the 10:39 mark of the game which tied the game. The tie continued into an overtime goal which was scored by Sam Ftorek of the Lynx at the 2:29 mark. The Ice Pilots went 2 for 5 on the power play with 28 shots on goal. David Cann was the losing goalie with 34 saves.

- Saturday, February 18 - Ice Pilots @ Charlotte Checkers 4-3 WIN
Goals by Pete Gardiner, Chris Heid, Dallas Steward and a game winning goal by Adam Courchaine in front of 10,945 Checkers fans brought the Ice Pilots 2 points in a win. The Pilots went 1 of 4 on the power play with David Cann as the winning goalie stopping 35 saves and improving his record to 1-2-2.

- Sunday, February 19 - Ice Pilots @ Greenville Grrrowl 5-4 LOSS
Hats off to Nate Metcalf! Nate brought in the first Ice Pilots hat trick of the season against the Grrrowl on Sunday night. Also scoring for the Ice Pilots was Jan Steber with his second goal of the season. The Ice Pilots went 1 for 7 on the power play with Pensacola taking 21 shots on goa l.

Ice Pilots host Mardi Gras in the Hangar tomorrow night, Tuesday, February 21 vs. Augusta Lynx. The puck drops at 7:05 PM. First intermission is the Mardi Gras parade as local Krewes and sponsors take the ice with lots of exciting events going on throughout the game.

Ice Pilots in the Community: The Ice Pilots are busy in the community this week with appearances all over the city.

Friday, February 24 - Pete Gardiner, Chris Heid and Nate Metcalf @ Bellview Middle School F-CAT Preps Celebration.
Saturday, March 25 - Entire team and staff @ the Pensacola Grand Mardi Gras Parade, Downtown Pensacola at 2 PM.

Vote for New York Nick's "Ten Year Anniversary Team" presented by the Pensacola News Journal by voting at www.icepilots.com and at Ice Pilot home games at the Customer Service table behind Section 107.

Fans will be able to vote for three forwards, two defenseman, one goalie and one coach who have played and coached for the Ice Pilots since the inaugural season. The voting will end on Tuesday, February 21. The team will be announced on March 18 when the Ice Pilots play the South Carolina Stingrays at the Hangar.

Vote for Papa John's Pizza "Top Ten Moments" in Ice Pilots history presented by WEAR TV 3 by voting on www.icepilots.com and at Ice Pilot home games at the Customer Service table behind Section 107. The voting ends on February 21. Sports Direc tor Dan Shugart from WEAR TV 3 will announce the 'Top Ten Moments" live on the Channel 3 News.

Barnes Ace Hardware and Feed are sponsoring the Ice Pilots leading scorer this season. Throughout the season, the team will be updating fans with the leading scorer through weekly releases and on www.icepilots.com. At the end of regular season, Barnes Ace Hardware will present a trophy to the top Ice Pilot; center ice. Adam Courchaine is at the top of the list for the Ice Pilots will 40 points. Brendan Cook is close behind with 33 points. Nick Lindberg ends up the list with 31points.

And the GEICO "Three Stars of the Game" are...Geico once again is sponsoring the Ice Pilots Three Stars of the Game on the Ice Pilots Hockey Network and at every home game. Listen for the Three Stars of the Game at the end of every game and catch a Three Stars t-shirt from your favorite Ice Pilot as he celebrates his accomplishment center ice.

At the end of the Ice Pilots regular season, Mr. Hank Dousharm of Geico will present the Ice Pilot player with the most points a trophy. The Geico Three Stars of the Game will be updated in each weekly release and on www.icepilots.com.
