Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder has acquired forward Ned Havern from the Trenton Titans in exchange for defenseman Dave McCulloch, Thunder head coach Chris Cichocki announced today.
"We're continuously trying to improve our offensive abilities and Ned provides an instant boost to our offense," said Cichocki. "He's a talented, offensive-minded player with excellent scoring touch and playmaking skills."
Havern, 23, comes to Stockton in the middle of an admirable rookie campaign, posting 24 points (12g-12a) in 47 games with the Titans while also appearing in one game this season with the Syracuse Crunch (AHL). His Trenton numbers placed him fourth on the Titans in scoring at the time of the transaction.
Havern compiled a stellar four-year college career at Boston College (NCAA), notching 57 points (28g-29a) in 151 career games with the Eagles. His 2004-05 senior campaign produced a career-high 22 points (10g-12a) in 40 games, while garnering the 2005 Joe Tomasello Award, presented by the New England Hockey Writers Association to New England's Unsung Hero.
His four-year college career also included three appearances in the NCAA hockey tournament, along with an appearance in the 2004 NCAA Frozen Four.
A native of Arlington, Massachussets, Havern was originally selected by the Dallas Stars in the ninth round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
The Thunder returns to play against the Bakersfield Condors on Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. PT face-off slated at Stockton Arena. The game can be heard live on the internet (free-of-charge) and is available for viewing at a $6 "pay-per-view" rate at www.stocktonthunder.com, courtesy of B-2 Networks.
