FORT WAYNE, IND. - Wander Javier's second-inning solo home run lifted the Cedar Rapids Kernels to a 1-0 lead Monday at Parkview Field, but the Fort Wayne TinCaps quickly surged in front en route to a 10-2 victory. Fort Wayne (11-19, 44-54) claimed a 2-1 series win while Cedar Rapids (17-13, 56-44) finished its final Eastern Division road swing with a 3-3 mark.

Javier provided a quick Kernels advantage in the top of the second. He belted a solo home run over the left-field wall that put Cedar Rapids ahead, 1-0. Javier's fifth round-tripper was also the Midwest League-leading 82nd total homer for the Kernels.

Three unearned runs in the home half of the second allowed Fort Wayne to take the lead for good. Michael Curry hit a one-out single and scored after back-to-back errors. Tucupita Marcano added an RBI double that broke the brief tie. Later in the inning, Dwanya Williams-Sutton was hit by a pitch and forced in Tyler Benson for a 3-1 advantage

The Kernels cut their deficit in half on Yeltsin Encarnacion's RBI single during the third inning, but the TinCaps answered in bottom of the frame by increasing their lead to 5-2. Curry drove in Justin Lopez with a single and scored on Marcano's walk.

Fort Wayne secured an 8-2 edge within the fifth. Marcano singled to bring in Luke Becker. The bases were loaded for the middle of the lineup when Williams-Sutton was plunked again, and Ethan Skender followed with an RBI walk. By the end of Monday's game, Williams-Sutton set a Midwest League record for being hit by pitches in four different plate appearances.

Staring left fielder Daniel Ozoria pitched for the Kernels in eighth as the TinCaps tallied two runs. Back-to-back run-scoring singles for Marcano and Jawuan Harris gave Fort Wayne its 10-2 winning margin. After another single, Ozoria was replaced by Encarnacion, and he induced an inning-ending double play.

Joey Cantillo (7-3) earned the win Monday against Tyler Palm (2-6). Cantillo posted a career-high-tying 10 strikeouts over six innings pitched while conceding just two runs. Palm was tagged for five runs including three unearned runs in three innings.

Following a day off Tuesday, Cedar Rapids will host the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday night to kick off a six-game homestand.
