TinCaps lose another close one, 3-2

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. - The Fort Wayne TinCaps couldn't get the bats going in a 3-2 loss to the West Michigan Whitecaps, Tuesday at Fifth Third Ballpark. OF Rymer Liriano's home run brought home the only two runs of the game for the TinCaps.

The Whitecaps took the lead in the 2nd inning. Jordan Lennerton was hit by a pitch and later scored when Alexis Espinosa singled to center and the ball was mishandled by the TinCaps. In the 4th , West Michigan doubled its lead on Luis Salas' two-out RBI single.

The TinCaps tied it in the top of the 5th . Jason Hagerty yanked a double down the right-field line and Liriano followed with his two-run homer just inside the left-field foul pole to make it 2-2.

West Michigan took the lead again in the 7th . Hernan Perez led off with a single, went to second on a bunt, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on Jordan Lennerton's two-out RBI single up the middle to give the Whitecaps a 3-2 advantage.

The TinCaps were stifled by Whitecaps RHP Trevor Feeney, who went seven strong innings with no walks and seven strikeouts in a no-decision.

West Michigan LHP Kenny Faulk (1-0) fired a scoreless 8th inning to grab the win. TinCaps LHP Juan Oramas (0-1) was the losing pitcher. RHP Melvin Mercedes snagged his second save of the season with a perfect 9th .

Fort Wayne fell back to .500 at 3-3; West Michigan is now 2-4. The Whitecaps took two of three games in the series. All three games were decided by a single run.

The TinCaps come back to Parkview Field to open a three-game series against the Dayton Dragons (Class-A Cincinnati Reds) Wednesday at Parkview Field. RHP Jerry Sullivan (1-0) gets the starting nod against Dayton RHP Pedro Villareal (0-0) in a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
