Dayton Dragons News Release

Bowling Green, Kentucky-Mayo Acosta's two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning broke a 1-1 tie as the Bowling Green Hot Rods defeated the Dayton Dragons 3-1 on Tuesday afternoon. The loss snapped the Dragons five-game winning streak and put a halt to their perfect start to the 2010 season.

Dayton snapped a scoreless tie in the top of the seventh inning when Henry Rodriguez led off with a double to right field and went to third on Andrew Means' single to center. Byron Wiley grounded out to second as Rodriguez scored to make it 1-0.

Bowling Green still trailed 1-0 when they began their winning rally in the bottom of the eighth. Chris Murrill's bunt single got the inning started. Tyler Bortnick singled through the left side of the Dayton infield to move Murrill to third. Brett Nommensen singled to left to drive in Murrill and tie the game. Two outs later, Acosta smashed the first pitch from Dragons reliever Justin Walker through the middle to drive in Bortnick and Nommensen and give the Hot Rods a 3-1 lead.

Bowling Green reliever Scott Shuman worked a perfect ninth inning for his second save.

The Dragons finished with just three hits. Means went 2 for 4 with a single and a double. Rodriguez's double extended his hitting streak to six straight games.

Walker (0-1) suffered the loss. He went three innings in relief, allowing six hits and three earned runs with no walks and three strikeouts.

Dragons starting pitcher Josh Ravin fired five scoreless innings in his second start of the season. Ravin allowed five hits (all singles) with two walks and three strikeouts.

The Dragons won two of three games in the series. They are 5-1 on the year.

Dayton travels to Fort Wayne to open a three-game series with the TinCaps on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Pedro Villarreal (0-0, 1.80) will make his second start for Dayton. Jerry Sullivan (1-0, 1.80) will start for Fort Wayne. The next home game is Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field against South Bend.

Notes: The Dragons hope the new season brings a much outcome for them in Fort Wayne. In 2009, Dayton played 15 games at Fort Wayne's Parkview Field and lost them all to a Fort Wayne club that eventually won the Midwest League championship. The TinCaps are 3-3 through their first six games of 2010.
