Beloit, WI - The two starting pitchers, Rob Whitenack and Liam Hendriks, dueled through six shutout innings before giving way to the bullpens. Peoria managed just one hit and one walk against Hendriks as the Beloit right-hander struck out five. Meanwhile Beloit collected four singles against Whitenack as the Chiefs right-hander struck out one.
Peoria finally broke through in the seventh against reliever Kane Holbrooks to end a 19-inning scoring drought. Matt Cerda led off with a single to left and moved to second on a groundout by Greg Rohan. A wild pitch moved Cerda to third and Justin Bour made it 1-0 with a sacrifice fly to center.
Beloit threatened in the sixth and eighth innings. In the sixth Wang Wei Lin reached on an error by Hak-Ju Lee to start the inning and he moved to second on a sac bunt. Whitenack retired Derek McCallum on a groundout with Lin moving to third on the play. With the game still scoreless, Whitenack recorded his only strikeout of the night to end the inning as Danny Rams went down swinging. In the eighth Beloit put two on with a single and two-out walk against reliever Jeff Beliveau. Beliveau struck out McCallum swinging to end the threat and keep the Chiefs on top 1-0.
Whitenack allowed just four singles over six shutout innings while striking out one. Beliveau struck out four while allowing one hit and two walks over two shutout innings.

Notes... The win was the Chiefs' first 1-0 win since April 28, 2009 against Cedar Rapids at O'Brien Field...Cerda leads the team with six walks...He was 3-for-3 and reached base in all four plate appearances with a walk...Richard Jones doubled in the seventh for his first hit of the season in his 19th at-bat...That leaves Jovan Rosa (0-for-13) and George Matheus (0-for-10) as the two Chiefs without hits on the season...The Chiefs turned a double play for the second straight night...Jose Valdez stole his fifth base in six attempts...Peoria was 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position for the second straight night and are hitless in their last 12 at-bats with runners at second or third...Beloit's three starting pitchers in the series combined to allow one run on eight hits over 17 innings of work...Chiefs starters allowed just one earned run on 12 hits while striking out 11 over 13 innings of work...The Chiefs now head to Cedar Rapids, IA to continue a nine-game road trip against the team that eliminated Peoria from the 2009 playoffs in September...Peoria will throw LH Jeffry Antigua (0-0, 3.60) on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. against Kernels RH Fabio Martinez (1-0, 0.00)...The game can be heard starting with the pre-game show at 6:20 PM on 96.5 ESPN Radio and www.peoriachiefs.com.
