
Bandits Break Out Brooms in Walk Off Fashion

Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
The Quad Cities River Bandits completed their first sweep of the 2010 season by defeating the Cedar Rapids Kernels in three straight to open their home slate.
Devin Shepherd led the way offensively going 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Ryde Rodriguez doubled with two outs in the bottom of the second to setup an RBI single from Shepherd which plated the game's first run. Matt Adams led off the ninth with a walk. Adams made his way to third by way of a Frederick Parejo bunt and a fielder's choice off the bat of Rodriguez. Shepherd came to the plate with runners on the corners. Shepherd was down in the count looking at a two strike pitch from Carpenter, he sliced the pitch down the right field line to bring Adams home. Jason Stidham was 3-for-3 in the game with a walk and two stolen bases.
Deryk Hooker started his first game for the Bandits this season. Hooker pitched three strong innings, allowing just one run in the third. Hooker struck out five to match his season high and gave way to the other half of his piggyback tandem, Scott Schneider. Schneider pitched four scoreless innings in relief, and struck out five, allowing just one hit. LaCurtis Mayes (1-0) came in to get the win for Quad Cities, throwing two scoreless. Mayes struck out two and walked one in his winning effort. Quad Cities pitchers tied a season high with twelve strikeouts in their fifth win of the season. David Carpenter (0-2) was saddled with his second loss of the season, as he allowed one run in the ninth.
The River Bandits take their four game winning streak on the road to Clinton, Iowa to start a three game series with the Lumberkings on Wednesday. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. at Alliant Energy Field in Clinton. Eric Fornataro is scheduled to make his second start of the season as the Bandits look to continue their winning ways on the road. Quad Cities returns for a three game series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Saturday, April 17.
