Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The TinCaps made key mistakes in the 9th inning on their way to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Great Lakes Loons, Thursday at Parkview Field. Everett Williams stroked three hits.

The loss snapped the TinCaps' six-game win streak. Fort Wayne went 6-2 on the homestand against West Michigan and Great Lakes.

It was a pitchers' duel early between TinCaps LHP Nick Greenwood and Loons RHP Will Savage. Fort Wayne broke the deadlock in the 6th when Williams singled to right to plate Dean Anna, then Jason Hagerty lifted a sacrifice fly to left to make it 2-0.

In the top of the 7th, Gorman Erickson doubled down the left-field line and scored on a single by Lenell McGee, cutting the lead to 2-1.

The Loons took the lead thanks to a pair of unearned runs in the 9th. RHP Nick Schumacher walked the leadoff man. Then on a potential double-play grounder, the ball was bobbled by the shortstop, then a wild throw to second allowed pinch-runner Brian Ruggiano to advance to third, putting Loons at the corners with nobody out. A walk loaded the bases. Rafael Ynoa grounded into a double play which scored the tying run, then Christian Lara doubled into the right-field corner to drive in the go-ahead run, making it 3-2.

Great Lakes RHP Luis Vasquez delivered a scoreless 9th to pick up his ninth save of the year. Will Savage (4-1) worked eight innings to pick up the win and Schumacher (2-2) took the loss.

The TinCaps are now 25-23. Great Lakes upped its record to 29-18.

The TinCaps hit the road for a four-game set against the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A Tampa Bay Rays). Fort Wayne RHP Jerry Sullivan (3-2) is the projected starter against Hot Rods RHP Alex Colome (4-2) in an 8:05 p.m. ET start.
