Brewer Shines in Hawks' Rout

South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
Bowling Green, KY - South Bend starter Charles Brewer pitched 7.0 scoreless innings and the Silver Hawks offense came to life in a 10-2 rout of the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Thursday night. With the win, the Silver Hawks wrap up their seven game road trip with a 4-3 record.
Brewer (WP, 3-3) struck out seven batters and walked only two in his latest gem, lowering his ERA to 1.41. He has only allowed two earned runs in his last 39.1 innings pitched, dating back to the second inning on April 19th - his third start of the year.
Offensively, the victory established new team highs for most runs in a game (10), largest margin of victory (8), most walks by the offense (11), and tied the team high for most homers in a game (2), most runners left on base (13) and most batters hit by a pitch (2).
Matt Davidson gave the Silver Hawks an early jolt when he blasted a first inning home run for a 2-0 lead. Keon Broxton had walked to start the inning and Davidson's two out blast to left off of Bowling Green starter Kyle Lobstein (LP, 1-3) brought them both home. It was Davidson's team-leading seventh home run of the season and brought his RBI total to 30, also a team high.
Not to be outdone, Bobby Borchering hit his own two run homer off of Lobstein in the third inning. Chris Owings had reached on a one out walk and scored when Borchering took the first pitch from Lobstein over the wall in left. It was Borchering's fifth homer this season and he now has 24 RBIs on the year.
The pair of home runs marks the second time this week that Borchering and Davidson have gone deep on the same day, repeating the feat that they achieved on Sunday at Lake County.
South Bend added an unearned run in the fifth against reliever Alex Koronis (ND) with Davidson scoring again on a botched fielder's choice. Koronis uncorked a wild pitch to score a run in the seventh and Matt Helm added a RBI single to put the lead up to 7-0.
Tyson Van Winkle added an RBI single with Andrew Fie picking up two RBIs on a double in the eighth, putting the Hawks up 10-0. Bowling Green plated two meaningless runs in the ninth against Rafael Quezada (ND).
The Silver Hawks return home for the start of a 10-game home stand on Friday night for the first Friday Fireworks Night of the season. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 PM as the Hawks welcome in the Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays). RHP Eric Smith (3-3, 2.56 ERA) will start for the Silver Hawks against Lansing RHP Dale Sever (1-1, 3.12 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 6:40 PM Eastern Time on 1620 ESPN Radio and online at www.silverhawks.com.
