Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

GENEVA, IL - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers could not hold on for their sixth win in a row. Wisconsin took a 2-1 lead into the eighth inning at Elfstrom Stadium on Thursday night. But, the Kane County Cougars got a two-run double from Kent Walton for a 3-2 lead. The Cougars would hold on in the top of the ninth to snap their eight-game losing streak.

Scooter Gennett walked with one out, stole second and went to third on a throwing error in the top of the first inning. Khris Davis drove in Gennett with a grounder to second for a 1-0 Wisconsin lead.

Kane County (21-27) answered in the bottom of the second inning. Anthony Aliotti singled with one out and stole second. Franklin Hernandez singled to left with two outs to drive in Aliotti.

The Rattlers (18-29) retook the lead in the top of the fifth inning in a near carbon copy of their run in the first. Cutter Dykstra single, stole second, and went to third on a throwing error. Erik Miller's sacrifice fly to left sent Dykstra home with the go-ahead run.

Heckathorn took the lead and ran with it. The big right-hander kept the Cougars off the board for the rest of his outing. Heckathorn tossed a total of seven innings; allowed one run on six hits; did not walk a batter and struck out five.

Kane County starting pitcher Dan Straily struck out 10 over seven innings and allowed three hits, but was in line for the loss until the Cougars rallied in the eighth against the Wisconsin bullpen.

Santo Manzanillo walked the leadoff batter. One out later, Mike Gilmartin singled to put runners on first and second. Manzanillo ran the count full to Walton. The runners were off on the 3-2 pitch and Walton doubled to left to drive in both runners to give the Cougars the lead.

Connor Hoehn, who came on in the top of the eighth inning, struck out the side in the top of the ninth to put an end to Wisconsin's five-game winning streak.

The Timber Rattlers continue their 13-game road trip on Friday when they start a 4-game series with the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Wisconsin sends Nick Bucci (3-1, 1.82) to the mound as their starting pitcher. Cedar Rapids plans to put Ariel Pena on the hill. Pena, who was transferred from the California League earlier this week, will be making his first Midwest League start of 2010.

Game time on Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium is 6:35pm. Catch the action on AM1280, WNAM starting with the Miller Lite Pregame show at 6:15pm.
