YESTERDAY: The TinCaps beat the Dragons, 7-1. Ethan Skender powered Fort Wayne's offense with 3 hits and 3 RBIs, including a 2-run homer. Agustin Ruiz had a 3-hit game as well that featured a double. Starter Cullen Dana went 5.2 innings with just 1 unearned run allowed. The 'Caps scored 3 in the second, 3 in the fourth, and 1 in the fifth, while Dayton's lone run came in the sixth.

CANTILLO DAY: Starting pitcher Joey Cantillo, in the Midwest League, has the lowest ERA (2.09), average against (.178), WHIP (0.88), FIP (2.10) & xFIP (2.37)... the highest K/9 (12.03) & K% (35%)... the best K/BB (5.23) & K-BB% (28%)... the 3rd lowest HR/9 (0.31)... and tied for the 3rd highest swinging strike rate% (14%)... Has 115 Ks in 86.0 IP, only Burlington's Hector Yan has more with 117.

WHAT'S ON THE LINE: The TinCaps have a chance to win their 3rd consecutive home series. Last homestand Fort Wayne took 2 out of 3 from both Peoria and Cedar Rapids. The 'Caps have not won 3 home series in a row yet this season.

MAKING HIS MARK: Infielder Tucupita Marcano has shown exceptional bat control throughout thE season, owning the lowest K% in the MWL at 8%, the 2nd-lowest swinging strike% at 4%, and the 5th best BB/K ratio (0.76). The 19-year-old has been particularly consistent at the plate over the past month, slashing .302/.336/.371 since June 27 (27 games) with 13 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. Marcano has 7 walks and 7 strikeouts in this span.

HARD CONTACT: Infielder Lee Solomon ranks 3rd in the MWL in line drive % as 20.8% of the balls he's put in play have been line drives. Outfielder Agustin Ruiz ranks 6th at 20.4%.

RUIZ BATTED IN: Outfielder Agustin Ruiz ranks tied for 10th in the MWL in RBIs with 48.

DWS, CF: Dwanya Williams-Sutton is making his first pro appearance in center field tonight. The 22-year-old has played 32 games in left field and 52 in right... Williams-Sutton is now officially the MWL leader in OBP (.406). He's on a 16-game on-base streak over which he's batting .279 with 3 doubles, 9 RBIs, and a .500 OBP. DWS has 10 walks against 9 strikeouts, plus 10 HBP... For the season, Williams-Sutton has been hit by 19 pitches, the highest number in the MWL. That includes being hit by 4 pitches on July 22 vs. Cedar Rapids. (According to records, no one has ever been hit by a pitch 4 times in a Major League Baseball game, and DWS was just the 6th MiLB player to have ever been hit by 4 pitches in a game.) He ranks 2nd in Fort Wayne history for HBP in a season. (Jon Schaeffer was hit by 23 pitches in 1998.)

HUNTING HITS: Through his first 35 games of the season, catcher Blake Hunt slashed .192/.301/.312 (.613 OPS). But in his last 39 games since May 26, he's slashed .311./.370/.446 (.816 OPS).

LOPEZ CONTEXT: Infielder Justin Lopez, who turned 19 in May, leads the TinCaps with 9 home runs. He's 1 of only 4 teenagers in the MWL with 9+ home runs this season. The others are Peoria's Nolan Gorman, who was drafted by the Cardinals 19th overall in 2018 (he hit 10 before a mid-season promotion), Clinton's Will Banfield, who was taken 69th overall by the Marlins in 2018 (he also has 9), and Burlington's Kevin Maitan, who was rated as the No. 1 international free agent prospect in 2016 (he has 9, too).

CURRY CATCHES ON: Outfielder Michael Curry's season got off to a slow start. After being in Extended Spring Training, he appeared in 5 April games before going back to Extended. He returned Memorial Day Weekend and went 0-for-6 in his first 2 games back. But in 47 games since May 26, he ranks 4th in the MWL in OPS (.868).
