Kane County Cougars News Release
Geneva, Illinois - The Kane County Cougars (60-45, 25-11) clinched their sixth straight series win with a 4-2 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (51-54, 20-16) on Monday night at Northwestern Medicine Field. Zack Shannon led the offense with three hits.
In the first inning, Alek Thomas reached on a single with one out. Zack Shannon drove a single to right center that was booted by center fielder Korry Howell, allowing Thomas to race in and score. Dominic Fletcher and Blaze Alexander roped RBI singles to extend the first-inning lead to 3-0. The Cougars first at-bat came to an end on Eddie Hernandez's single; he was thrown out on a 9-2-4-6 double play.
Wisconsin made it a game again in the fourth. Cougar starter Ryan Weiss allowed a single then walked two batters to load the bases with one out. After a strikeout, Kekai Rios roped a two-out, two-run double to trim the Cougars lead to 3-2.
Weiss buckled down to allow only those two runs in six innings on the mound. He did not receive a decision. The Cougars extended the advantage in the seventh on Zack Shannon's RBI single to back the effort of the relief corps. The bullpen tandem of Ryan Fritze (two innings) and Jose Cuas tossed three scoreless innings. Cuas earned the save after a 1-2-3 ninth. Logan Gillaspie (3-6) took the loss, surrendering three runs in 5.2 innings.
The Cougars head to Peoria Tuesday night to embark on a four-game road trip against the Peoria Chiefs. First pitch of all four games is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Follow the action live on AM 1280 WBIG or online at kccougars.com.
