South Bend, IN: In conjunction with Minor League Baseball, South Bend Cubs pitcher Brailyn Marquez has been named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for games played from July 22-28.

The 20-year-old lefty Marquez, who is ranked as the number one pitching prospect in the Chicago Cubs organization, dazzled on the mound at Four Winds Field last week. On July 25, the southpaw struck out a career high 14 batters in six shutout innings. Marquez allowed just one hit, did not walk a batter, and had his fastball at triple digits consistently.

Marquez struck out the side in the game on four separate occasions. In the first inning, he struck out the first three Lake County Captains he faced on fastballs that each exceeded 100 miles-per-hour. In the second, he struck out three in a row on all sliders. The masterful performance lowered his ERA to 3.91 on the season.

Prior to Marquez's last start, the most strikeouts in a single game by a South Bend Cubs pitcher was 12, done by Dylan Cease in 2017. Marquez now holds the record after his 14 K spectacle.
