Saturday night the Bees got a great start from right hander Robinson Pina, then squandered the 2-0 lead he left them with. Pina exited after six having yielded just three hits, no runs and striking out seven. Burlington relievers promptly gave up three runs in the seventh and two in the eighth. The final was Peoria 5-3.

Sunday evening was the other side of the coin. Bees young starter Cole Duensing had trouble with his control, walked four, gave up four hits and five runs in four innings. He bowed out to Parker Joes Robinson, who got six runs from his offense in the top of the sixth as the Bees cruised to a 15-5 win over the Chiefs to even the series at one apiece.

Through three innings Burlington batters could only scrape out three hits against Peoria starter Kyle Leahy, but they broke through in the fourth win a run when lead off hitter Francisco Del Valle drove the first pitch of the inning over the right field fence. Peoria up 5-1.

After a 1-2-3 fifth, the Bees blew it open in the sixth. Rodard Avelino took over for Leahy and immediately walked Spencer Griffin. With one out Griffin stole his 12 th base of the year. Justin Jones drew a walk. Connor Fitzsimons was hit by a pitch for the 13th time this season to load the bases. Newcomer Ryan Vega walked to score Griffin.

Alvaro Rubalcaba walked. Jones scored. The Chiefs changed pitchers, brining in Sebastian Tabata. His second pitch landed outside the park to left off the bat of Kevin Maitan. The grand slam was Maitan's 9 th home run of the year, and just like that the Bees took a 7-5 lead.

They were not done. After pushing a run across in the seventh. In the eighth Burlington greeted another Peoria relief pitcher rudely. Maitan laced a one-out single to right. Adrian Rondon followed with a single to center. After a second out, Griffin walked to load the bases once again. Del Valle, who was 5-6 on the night with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored, singled in a run. Jones then took a 1-0 pitch out for the Bees second grand slam of the game. It was Jones seventh round tripper of the season.

Burlington tacked on two more runs in the ninth to make the final 15-5 and tie the short series at one each. The rubber match will be Monday at 6:35 in Peoria.
