The Tigers took on the Hurricanes for the first of eight matchups this season on Friday night in the VisitLethbridge.com Arena. Medicine Hat had a record of 5-3-0-0 against Lethbridge in the 2024-25 regular season.

Medicine Hat continued their trend of scoring early with a goal from Misha Volotovskii just 1:00 into the first period. Volotovskii took a pass from Kade Stengrim and drove the net, squeaking a shot past Koen Cleaver for his second of the year. Niilopekka Muhonen also picked up an assist on the goal. Noah Davidson doubled the Tigers lead to two with a goal off a great cross-ice pass from Liam Ruck at 5:03. Jonas Woo grabbed the secondary helper on the goal. The Hurricanes managed to grab a power play goal from Hudson Kibblewhite at 8:26 to make it a 2-1 game heading into the second period. Medicine Hat put 16 shots on goal in the first period, while Lethbridge put up 10.

Lethbridge tied the game with a short handed goal from Shane Smith at 4:08 in the second period, but the Tigers took their lead right back. Kadon McCann would reignite Medicine Hat's offensive push with a hard fought goal at 13:58. Cam Parr got the assist on McCann's second goal of the year. Yaroslav Bryzgalov lengthened the lead for the Tigers with a wrist shot goal on the power play for his first of the year at 18:24. Markus Ruck and Kyle Heger connected with Bryzgalov for the assists on the power play goal. By the end of the second period the Tigers had a 4-2 lead after amassing 18 shots on goal in the second period, while Lethbridge posted 7 shots on goal.

Medicine Hat showed up big defensively in the third period as they had two penalty kills in the third frame. The Hurricanes outshot the Tigers this period 13-10 but Jordan Switzer stood tall for the Tigers making some big saves to help them maintain their lead. Lethbridge pulled their goalie in the dying seconds when for a 6-on-4 power play in the dying minutes of the third period, but the Tigers managed to hold them off and secure the win.
