Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Moose Jaw, Sask. - The Edmonton Oil Kings are now 2-0-0-0 on their three-game swing through the East Division after a 5-1 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night.

It's the fifth win in a row dating back to the 2024/2025 season for the Oil Kings over the Warriors.

Jack Toogood got things going for the Oil Kings with a pair of first period goals. The first, picking up a loose puck entering the Warriors zone, and firing a shot passed Matthew Hutchison to make it 1-0. The second, a highlight reel goal where the 18-year-old cut to the net and flipped a backhand over the Warrior netminder to give Edmonton the 2-0 lead. Late in the first, Joe Iginla fired one home on a spinning shot to make it 3-0 Edmonton after 20 minutes.

Ethan MacKenzie decided to get in on the action as well with a missile of a shot from the left circle that got over the shoulder of Hutchison just 28 seconds into the second period. That was followed by Miroslav Holinka's third goal in his first two games of the season to give Edmonton the hefty 5-0 lead. That chased Hutchison from the Warrior net, as he allowed five goals on 13 shots.

Edmonton was outshot 20-9 in the final 40 minutes of the game, but were able to hold onto the win, only giving up an Aiden Ziprick powerplay goal in the second half of the third period to make it 5-1.

Ethan Simcoe was stellar for the Oil Kings, stopping 30 of 31 shots he faced, including a number of Grade A chances. It's Simcoe's fourth career win over the Warriors, and he has now allowed just two goals in four games overall, and just one goal in three games in Moose Jaw over the last two seasons.

The Oil Kings were also 0-for-2 on the powerplay, and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill in the game. They're back in action on Saturday night when they visit the Brandon Wheat Kings to wrap up the road trip.
