Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Norwich, CT- The Aberdeen IronBirds fell to the Connecticut Tigers Sunday afternoon by a score of 4-1. Sam Kimmel hit an RBI single in the eighth inning that tied the score at one, before the Tigers scored three in the bottom of the eighth to take the 4-1 win.
Alex Santana got the start for the IronBirds, and went three innings. He allowed two hits and three walks, striking out four. He got out of jams in the second and third innings to keep the game scoreless.
Jared Breen collected the first hit for the IronBirds, a single in the fifth inning, but was stranded at first to end the inning.
The Tigers would strike in the bottom of the fifth. A lead off triple, followed two batters later by a sac fly score the game's first run and it was 1-0 Tigers.
Aberdeen escaped a bases loaded-no out jam in the bottom of the seventh and took the momentum into the eighth. After Austin Wynns, a pinch hitter for the IronBirds, worked a walk, he was replaced by pinch runner Tanner Rust. Rust took off for second as Federico Castagnini grounded out to second, and it put a runner in scoring position for Sam Kimmel. Kimmel battled and then blooped a single to right field, scoring Rust and tying the game at one.
The Tigers would score three runs in the bottom of the eighth, however, and get the win, 4-1. A two run single by Steven Negorn and another Powell sac fly was enough to get past the IronBirds, 4-1.
Hart takes the loss, falling to 2-1 on the season. Aberdeen returns home to face the Hudson Valley Renegades tomorrow night, beginning at 7:05 p.m.
