Jamestown Jammers News Release
Jamestown catcher Jin-De Jhang hit 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI's, while Dovydas Neverauskas pitched effectively into the 6th inning as the Jammers (34-23) defeated the Auburn Doubledays (20-37) by the score of 7-1. The Jammers' offense was led by Jang and second baseman Adam Frazier, both of whom collected three hits on the afternoon.
After a one out triple by Matt Reistetter in the first inning, he later scored on an RBI ground out by first baseman Bryan Lippincott. That would be the only run on the afternoon for the Doubledays, as Neverauskas settled down to scatter 3 hits, while allowing 1 run, striking out 2 and walking 1.
Auburn starter Ryan Ullman ran into trouble almost immediately in the bottom of the first. Recently called up outfielder Candon Myles led of the inning with an infield single and advanced to second base after a sacrifice bunt by Michael Fransoso. Frazier then recorded the first of his three hits on the afternoon, a single to left field, and was followed by a three run home run by Jhang, which made the score 3-1.
In the 3rd inning, Frazier singled with two outs and advanced to second on a throwing error by Ullman. He was plated by an RBI single by Jang.
The scoring would resume for Jamestown in the 5th, with the familiar recipe of Frazier and Jang once again hurting the Doubledays. Frazier led off the inning with another single to left field, and Jang followed with a two run home run to right field to give the Jammers a 6-1 lead. Ullman finished the 5th, surrendering a total of 10 hits, 6 runs, and recorded 5 strikeouts.
The Jammers scored an insurance run in the 8th inning when right fielder Elvis Escobar hit a two out double, scoring Erich Weiss from first base. Relief pitchers Justin Topa and Jared LaKind combined for 3 and two-thirds innings of shut out ball to secure the win for the Jammers.
The Jammers will finish the two-game set with Auburn Doubledays tomorrow at 7:05p.m.. For tickets or more information visit www.jamestownjammers.com, or call the Jammers front office at (716) 664-0915.
