Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, NY - After getting outplayed by the State College Spikes the last two nights at Diethrick Park, the Jamestown Jammers were the ones who brought their "A" game Sunday afternoon. Backed by nine hits on the offensive end, and six shutout innings form Tyler Eppler, the Jamestown Jammers downed the Spikes in their series finale, 5-2.
Eppler, who has been great in his first professional season after getting drafted in the 6th round of this past year's draft, kept the potent State College offense off-balance all night long. He only surrendered three hits in his six innings of work, only gave up one run, walked one, and struck out four. He picked up his second win of the season for the Jammers, and lowered his ERA to an impressive 2.59. Miguel Rosario would relieve Eppler in the top of the seventh inning, and throw two scoreless innings, strike out one, and only give up two hits. Eric Karch would pitch the ninth for Jamestown, and he would struggle a bit. The Spikes would load the bases at one point, but would only manage to get to Karch for one run before he retired the side.
The solid pitching from Eppler and the Jammer bullpen gave the Jamestown offense time to get going. They would jump on State College starter Fernando Baez in the bottom of the fourth inning. Left fielder Carl Anderson began the 2-run rally with a single to right-center field. He would then move to second on a passed ball, and score on a base hit by designated hitter Jordan Luplow to put the Jammers up 1-0. After the next two batters were retired, third basemen Chase Simpson would drill an RBI double to right field, which would score Luplow, and give the Jammers a 2-0 advantage.
Jamestown would score another run in the bottom of the fifth inning via an RBI double from Anderson. The Jammers completed their scoring with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, which came off an error from the State College Spike defense, and a sacrifice fly from center fielder Elvis Escobar.
For the Jammers, Anderson (2), Luplow (2), Simpson (2), and shortstop Tyler Filliben (2) all had multiple hits to lead the Jammers nine hit attack.
On the State College side, catcher Luis Cruz (2), and center fielder Collin Radack (2) connected for multiple hits.
The Jammers will now embark on a grueling seven game road trip, which will begin with a doubleheader tomorrow in Auburn against the Auburn Doubledays. The two teams will play a doubleheader to make up the postponed game between the two teams that occurred August 13th. After Auburn, the road trip will also include stops in Mahoning Valley (Wednesday-Thursday), and Williamsport (Friday-Saturday). The Jammers will return to Diethrick Park for the final two games of the season Sunday the 31st, and Monday the 1st against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. The Jammers now have an overall record of 31-35, and still find themselves six games behind the Brooklyn Cyclones in the New York-Penn League Wild Card standings.
