'Cats Still One Win from Postseason After Loss to Cyclones

BROOKLYN, NY - The Brooklyn Cyclones topped the Tri-City ValleyCats 10-1 on Sunday night at MCU Park, as the 'Cats remain only one win away from clinching a berth in the 2014 New York-Penn League postseason.

The ValleyCats struck first when center fielder Jason Martin led off the game with a walk, before stealing second, and eventually coming home to score on a wild pitch.

Unfortunately, the host Cyclones took the lead back with a vengeance, scoring three runs off of Tri-City starter Jay Gause in the first inning, then five off of reliever Zach Davis in the second.

Right-hander Luis Ordosgoitti served as a bright spot for the 'Cats, coming in to pitch five and two-thirds innings of relief, allowing only one earned run on five hits. However, the damage had already been done, as the Cyclones pitching staff, led by All-Star starter Marcos Molina, held Tri-City to only three hits.

With the ValleyCats losing, and the Connecticut Tigers defeating the Hudson Valley Renegades 8-2, Tri-City's lead over the Tigers in the Stedler Division standings was trimmed to seven games, with eight games remaining in the regular season. Due to the fact that the ValleyCats won seven of the ten games played against Connecticut, one more Tri-City victory, or a loss by the Tigers would give the 'Cats the division crown.

Tri-City will look to clinch their playoff birth tomorrow against the Vermont Lake Monsters. The game, which will kick off the final homestand of the regular season at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium, will start with a 7::00pm first pitch. It will feature a pitching matchup of Tri-City RHP Robert Kahana (0-2, 4.26) against the Lake Monsters RHP Corey Miller (0-3, 5.51).
