-PINCKNEY DIVISION CHAMPION SPIKES CONTINUE ROAD TRIP: The State College Spikes captured their second consecutive New York-Penn League Pinckney Division title with a victory over the Jamestown Jammers last night, and today, they face the Jammers in the final game of a three-game series at Russell Diethrick Park. The Spikes became the first NYPL team to clinch a playoff berth with their win last night, and will await their opponent in the NYPL Semifinal Series starting on Wednesday, September 3, with sites and times to be determined. State College will head to Mahoning Valley on Monday and Tuesday to complete a five-game road swing. The Spikes are 7-2 against the Jammers this year, including a two-game sweep at Russell Diethrick Park in June. All-time, State College is 46-43 against Jamestown, with a 24-21 record at Russell Diethrick Park.

-LAST GAME: The State College Spikes earned their second consecutive New York-Penn League Pinckney Division championship with a 7-3 victory over the Jamestown Jammers on Saturday night at Russell Diethrick Park.

Jake Stone propelled the State College offense in the division-clinching game, driving in five runs. Stone smashed a three-run homer to left-center field in the third inning to extend the Spikes' lead to 5-0, and then added a two-run double in the fourth. Stone and Nick Thompson, who contributed an RBI double in the first, are now both tied for the team lead in runs batted in with 38.

Danny Diekroeger also extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a third-inning single. Diekroeger's string is just one game shy of the club record of 18 games, set by Brian Friday in 2007.

Robelys Reyes also brought in a run with a first-inning single as State College scored twice in the opening frame to establish a lead that they would not relinquish.

Will Anderson turned in another quality start for his sixth win of the year as he yielded three runs on five hits and two walks over six-plus innings of work. Jeff Rauh took over in the seventh and pitched two frames without allowing a run. Kyle Grana then struck out two and elicited the final out, an Elvis Escobar popout to Diekroeger at third base, in the ninth.

-BAEZ GETS START FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Fernando Baez makes his 12th appearances of the year and seventh start for the Spikes today. Baez allowed four runs on five hits and three walks over three-plus innings last time out, but did not factor in the decision against Auburn in the second game of last Sunday's doubleheader. Baez is 1-1 with a 4.67 ERA in eight road appearances, but has put up a 0.93 ERA at home. The righty has struck out 14 and walked 11 over his last four outings, and makes his first start against Jamestown this season with today's appearance.

-JAMMERS TAP EPPLER FOR MOUND ASSIGNMENT: Right-hander Tyler Eppler makes his 13th start for Jamestown in today's game. Eppler, the Pirates' sixth-round draft choice out of Sam Houston State in 2014, has faced the Spikes three times previously, and has gone 0-1 with a 3.21 ERA over 14 innings against State College. In his last time out, the Navasota, TX native earned his first professional win with six shutout innings against Batavia, allowing three hits while striking out five batters. Eppler holds a 1.72 ERA at home this year, with a 3.91 ERA on the road.

-SPIKES, CARDINALS EXTEND PDC THROUGH 2016: The State College Spikes have announced a two-year extension of their Player Development Contract (PDC) with the defending National League champion St. Louis Cardinals. The extension maintains the affiliation between the Spikes and Cardinals through the 2016 New York-Penn League season.

-SPIKE MARKS: The Spikes lead Tri-City with 52 homers to 43 and 355 runs scored to 332, but trail in team batting average, .270 to .269...State College's +112 run differential is the best in the league, with Tri-City next at +68...Kyle Grana's 13.50 strikeouts per nine innings are the second-most among NYPL relievers, and his 55 total whiffs are sixth-most in the league...Darren Seferina is now sixth in the NYPL in batting average at .304...Danny Diekroeger's 17-game hit streak has now surpassed Jake Stone's 14-game string in July for the longest by a Spike this season, and is just one game shy of Brian Friday's Spikes record string...The Spikes clinched their 2013 division title on August 31 in Auburn, with four games remaining in the season...There are nine games left this season...State College has not been out of first place in the division since July 1
