Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Norwich, CT (8/24/14)- The Hudson Valley Renegades fell 8-2 to the Connecticut Tigers on Sunday evening, and concluded the final game of the five game road trip. Now with a 3-2 record since the All-Star Break, the Renegades sit at 44-24 overall. They are still the top team in the New York-Penn League, and hold a 6.5 game lead over the Brooklyn Cyclones in first place of the McNamara Division. Hudson Valley looks to clinch at least the wild card spot in the 2014 playoffs in their six-game homestead starting Monday.
Hunter Wood went 3.2 innings on the hill in his third start of the season, giving up four runs and striking out three batters. The All-Star is now 3-4 with a 3.34 ERA this summer, and leads the team with 54 strikeouts.
Ryan Pennell and Edwin Fierro would tag-team the next 4.1 innings out of the bullpen, combining for four runs and three strikeouts. Fierro impressed with a couple scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth inning, bringing his earned run average to a mere 1.74.
At the plate, the Renegades put up two runs on six hits in their third meeting with the Tigers. Hunter Lockwood was the only player to record a multi-hit performance, as he finished 2-4 with a run scored. Jace Conrad and Clayton Henning both went 1-3 in the outing, and each drove in a run.
Grant Kay was the only Hudson Valley batter to record an extra-base hit in the contest, lacing his 13th double of the season in the top of the seventh inning.
Notes: The Renegades could earn a bid to the playoffs as soon as tomorrow, with the IronBirds making their way back to Dutchess Stadium for three games. Hudson Valley still has the best home winning percentage of all fourteen teams in the league, as they are currently 23-8 in their home ballpark.
The Renegades return home on Monday, August 25th to host the IronBirds at 7:05 PM. Join us for "Keep Clam and Green On Night" at the ballpark!
