Spinners Take Series with 5-3 Win

LOWELL, MA "" The problems at the plate continued for the Renegades on Saturday night in Lowell. They were outhit 13-5 as they dropped the second game of the series by a score of 5-3 to start their five game roadtrip. Once again, the resilience was on display after Hudson Valley tied the score at two in the fourth inning. Unfortunately, the bats were fairly quiet after that, and the team dropped to a season-low three games under .500. The only saving grace was that their deficit in the McNamara Division did not change thanks to losses by both Aberdeen and Brooklyn.
Darryl George's double in the top of the first was spoiled by Spinners starter Jamie Callahan, who struck out Ariel Soriano before getting Omar Narvaez to ground out to retire the side. Forrest Allday added a double of his own to lead off the bottom of the first against Ben Griset, who then allowed a single to Tzu-Wei Lin to place runners at the corners. With one out, Danny Bethea struck an RBI single to make it 1-0 for the home team. Later in the frame with runners still at the corners and two outs, Deiner Lopez brought home another run with an RBI single.
In the top of the third, James Harris led off and reached on a throwing error by Spinners third baseman Carlos Asuaje. After stealing his tenth base of the season, he moved to third on a groundout to second by Julian Ridings. A tough pitch from Callahan to George got by catcher David Sopilka for a passed ball and scored Harris to cut the deficit in half to 2-1.
The Renegades fourth inning started swimmingly with an opposite field double to right by Soriano. Narvaez then grounded out to get him to third, and for the third time in the past week, Granden Goetzman lifted a sacrifice fly to tie the game at two apiece. Lowell came right back in the bottom of the inning, and chased Griset (1-3) from the game after two straight doubles by Asuaje and Nick Moore made it 3-2. Rick Teasley had a bounceback game out of the bullpen, and ended the inning by striking out Lin to bring it to the fifth.
As they showed on Friday night in game one, the Spinners were very difficult with two outs, especially in the seventh. A single by Kevin Mager and a pitch that hit Bethea put a pair of runners on for Aaron King, who reached on an error by George at shortstop to load the bases. Lopez kept the line moving with a two run single that all but put the game out of reach at 5-2. The Renegades final chance came with two outs in the ninth against Jonathan Aro, who gave up a single to Narvaez and a triple to Goetzman that made it 5-3. The righty completed the four inning save by getting Ty Young to ground out to short to end the ballgame.
