Norwich, CT - The Connecticut Tigers (27-31) defeated the Aberdeen IronBirds (29-26) by a score of 4-1 Sunday evening at Dodd Stadium. In the eighth inning with the score tied 1-1, Tigers 2B Steven Negron (1-3) hit the clutch two run single to right field that gave the Tigers a 3-1 lead.
The Tigers pitching dominated the IronBirds offense. The Tigers used four pitchers to combine for one run on three hits. Starter LHP Joe Mantiply picked up a no decision after pitching three shut out innings and giving up no hits. RHP Tanner Bailey pitched phenomenal in relief of Mantiply throwing four scoreless innings.
The Tigers got production from SS Curt Powell (0-1) with two RBI's on a pair of sacrifice fly outs. RF Kasey Coffman (2-3) added a pair of singles. 3B Brett Harrison (1-2) with two runs scored and a triple.
The few highlights for the IronBirds offense came from LF Sam Kimmel (1-4) hit a game-tying RBI single in the eighth inning. 1B Trey Mancini (1-4) hit a double.
The Tigers and the Lowell Spinners begin a two-game series in Lowell, MA tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. LHP Alex Phillips (4-1, 3.18) takes the mound for the Tigers.
