Hershey Bears News Release

The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club split four games down the middle at 2-2-0-0 last week, winning at Manchester and Providence, but falling at home to Binghamton and on the road at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. A busy month of February continues with four games this week, beginning with the conclusion of a three- game road trip.

HERSHEY travels to Norfolk Tuesday for the first time in 2010-11, taking on the Admirals at Norfolk Scope at 7:15 p.m. The road trip concludes in Rochester Friday night at Blue Cross Arena, with the fourth and final meeting of the season against the Americans. The BEARS then return home to face the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for the first time this season Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. The Charlotte Checkers return to Giant Center Sunday for a game at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the Giant Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911.

Well-traveled: After a swing through Manchester, Providence and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last week, HERSHEY is right back on the road with games in Norfolk and Rochester this Tuesday and Friday. The game in Rochester Friday will conclude a three-game road trip for Mark French ‚¬â„¢s team. Bridgeport and Charlotte come to Giant Center this weekend.

DeMichiel nets first win: Rookie goaltender Jared DeMichiel made his AHL debut and won his first AHL start Friday night with a 4-3 win over the Providence Bruins at Dunkin Donuts Center. The rookie and Rochester Institute of Technology graduate made 28 saves to win his first AHL game less than 100 miles from his hometown of Avon, CT. DeMichiel becomes the fifth different goalie for HERSHEY to win a game in 2010-11.

Tough to get a ticket: The BEARS continue to lead the American Hockey League in attendance in 2010-11. Through 28 home games, HERSHEY has drawn 265,469 fans through the turnstiles at Giant Center, for an average of 9,481 per game. The BEARS have drawn on average more than 1,200 fans per game than any other AHL team.

Holtby remains on sidelines: Goaltender Braden Holtby has been out of game action for the last two weeks, after suffering a lower body injury January 29 against Charlotte. His status is day-to-day as the new week begins.

Practice schedule: The BEARS hit the ice on Thursday at HERSHEYPARK Arena for practice at 9:30 a.m., with media availability at approximately 11:00 a.m. It ‚¬â„¢s the only local practice this week for Mark French ‚¬â„¢s team, who will play in Rochester Friday night at Blue Cross Arena.

Note: the Bears have signed forward Ryan Cruthers to a player tryout contract, he'll wear number 34 Tuesday in Norfolk. Hershey also released Andrew Carroll and Chris Blight from their PTO's prior to departing for Norfolk today.
