Barons Weekly Report

February 14, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release

- BRING ON THE HEAT: The Barons return from a season-high 8-day break with back-to-back encounters with the Abbotsford Heat on Friday and Saturday. The Barons and Heat, AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, have yet to meet this season. Friday's game will take place in Calgary at the home of the Flames, Scotiabank Saddledome. The game is part of the lead-up to the NHL's Heritage Classic, an outdoor game at Calgary's McMahon Stadium on Feb. 20 matching the Flames against the Montreal Canadiens. After Friday's matchup at 8 pm Central, the Barons and Heat play in British Columbia on Saturday at the Abbotsford Sports and Entertainment Centre at 9 pm CST. Friday's game will air on the Barons' flagship station KXY 96.1 FM, while Saturday's can be heard on News Radio 1000 KTOK.

- MORE ZEROS FOR GERBER: Wednesday's 2-0 win over San Antonio provided goaltender Martin Gerber with his fourth shutout of the season, as he stopped all 33 Rampage shots. Gerber has blanked the Rampage each of the last two times he's faced them and has backstopped the Barons to 3 straight wins against San Antonio, stopping 95 of 96 shots in those games.

- SCORE AND WIN: Alexandre Giroux remains second in the AHL in goals (27) and points (61). He has goals in 17 of OKC's 54 games and the Barons are 15-0-1-1 when Giroux tallies 1 or more goals in a contest.

- WEST AT A GLANCE: The Barons enter this week in sixth place in the West Division, but only 5 points back of first. Eight standing points separate the top 7 teams in the division. As of Feb. 14, Houston led the division with 68 points, followed by Milwaukee and Peoria with 67. San Antonio is fourth with 66, while Texas is fifth with 64. OKC is next with 63. Chicago (60) and Rockford (47) round out the division. The top 4 teams in the West are guaranteed Calder Cup playoff spots. Because the West has 8 teams compared to the North Division's 7, if the fifth place finisher in the West has more points than the fourth place club in the North, that fifth place West team would qualify, cross over and compete in the North's playoff bracket. As this week's play begins, both the Barons and fifth-place Texas have better records than the North Division's fourth-place club, Lake Erie, and seventh-place Chicago has the same point total and win percentage.
