@ Milwaukee (2/9) The Peoria Rivermen entered the third period on Wednesday trailing 3-0, but left on top completing a third period comeback with a shootout victory 4-3 over the Milwaukee Admirals at the Bradley Center. T.J. Hensick sparked the comeback with a shorthanded goal and power-play goal, while Chris Porter sealed it for the Rivermen with a goal in the sixth round of the shootout. READ MORE
vs. Houston (2/11) The Peoria Rivermen went to the shootout for the third time in their last four games on Friday night before falling 4-3 to the Houston Aeros at Carver Arena. Nicholas Drazenovic scored twice while T.J. Hensick extended his point streak to nine straight games with a third-period assist. READ MORE
@ Houston (2/13) The Peoria Rivermen ended the Houston Aeros six-game winning streak in front of 9,104 fans at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. by a score of 3-1. Minnesota-native Chris Porter registered a goal and an assist while T.J. Hensick extended his point streak to 10 games with a third period assist.
NEWS AND NOTES
Shootout Stories.The Rivermen went 23 games in between shootouts before competing in three over a stretch of four games this week. They only participated in three over their first 49 games of the season. Peoria is 3-3 this season in shootouts and their shooters are successful 29.7 percent (11-for-37) while the goaltenders have stopped 71.0 percent (27-for-38).
Back on Track.Peoria's power-play went 2-for-5 on Friday, marking the first time since Jan. 18 (12 games) in which they have scored multiple power-play goals. The Rivermen have scored a power-play goal in seven of their last eight games.
Forget January.After ending January by losing seven of their last 10 games, the Rivermen have started February with points in five of their first six games (3-1-2).
Hometown Hero.Chris Porter scored a goal and added an assist in Sunday's win over Houston at Xcel Energy Center. Porter - who was born in Ontario - actually lives in Fairbault, Minn., about 50 miles south of St. Paul.
Short Story.The Rivermen have scored five SHG this season and two of them came this week.
Going Streaking. T.J. Hensick has earned a point in each of his last 10 games and in 17 of his last 19 games. His current point streak started on Jan. 23 and over that time has 15 points (six goals, nine assists). His streak is tied with Milwaukee's Roman Josi for the longest active streak in the league. Mark Mancari (Portland), Keith Aucoin (Hershey), and David Desharnais (Hamilton) have all had 13-game point streaks which are the longest in the AHL this season. He also has assists in 10 consecutive home games dating back to Dec. 19. It is the longest home assist streak in the league this season and is two games shy of Aucoin's mark for the home point streak.
Follow the Leader.Hensick leads the team with 51 points which is good enough for sixth most in the AHL. He also leads the Rivermen in goals (16), assists (34), power-play assists (18), power-play points (23), game-winning assists (7), game-winning points (9) and points per-game (1.19).
Keeping Em' Out. Jake Allen has the third best save percentage in the league at .932 which is also second best in the Western conference. He only trails Curtis Sanford of Hamilton (.934) and Braden Holtby of Hershey (.939).
Offensive Defenseman. Nathan Oystrick's 11 goals this season rank second among all defenseman in the AHL behind Viatcheslav Voynov of Manchester with 12. Oystrick's 32 points overall place him 10th among other defenseman as well.
Finishing Strong. The Rivermen are 20-1-0-1 this year when leading after two periods of play, and are also 12-2-2-3 in one goal games.
Home Away From Home. In 29 games away from Carver Arena this season, the Rivermen have earned more points than any team in the AHL. Their 18-9-0-2 record has produced 38 points, two better than Wilkes-Barre/Scranton while their 18 wins are equal to the Penguins for best in the league.
First Things First. The Rivermen are 23-4-1-2 when scoring first. The Rivermen have scored first in 53% of their games so far this season and are 15-2-0-3 when leading after the first period. .
