Manitoba Moose News Release

WORKING DURING THE WEEK: This week's series versus the Marlies marks the third weekday series for the Moose this season. Manitoba hosted Peoria for a Monday-Tuesday set on Dec. 27 & 28 and more recently took on the Marlies for a Tuesday-Wednesday series on Jan. 18 & 19. The Moose are a perfect 4-0-0-0 in early week games at MTS Centre and won all four by a three-goal margin. The Moose now have a home record of 17-7-1-1. Their home winning percentage (0.692) ranks fourth in the AHL.

LACK'S GOT THEIR BACK: Eddie Lack's teammates provided plenty of support for their goalie on Saturday racking up five goals on San Antonio. Lack returned the favour stopping all 22 shots he faced recording his third shutout of the season. The rookie 'tender is tied for fourth in the AHL with a 2.04 goals against average, top among all rookies goalies.

BOLDUC HAS A HISTORY HERE: Centre Alexandre Bolduc broke into the AHL with the Manitoba Moose on Dec. 14/05 and scored a goal in his first game. Bolduc has now played 209 games with the Moose and scored his 40th AHL goal on Saturday night. The only current member of the Moose with more games in a Moose uniform is captain, Nolan Baumgartner (369 games). Bolduc was briefly re-assigned to Manitoba this season by the Canucks on Dec. 2, then again on Feb. 8. He scored his first career NHL goal with the Canucks on Jan. 2.

ONE FOR THE CAPTAIN:The Manitoba Moose honoured their former captain Mike Keane in a pre-game ceremony on Saturday night. During the tribute ceremony dedicated to the three-time Stanley Cup champion, the Moose raised Keane's jersey number 12 to the rafters at MTS Centre. The current members of the Manitoba Moose must have drawn inspiration from the event because following the ceremony, the Moose rolled the San Antonio Rampage with a convincing 5-0 victory for their only win of the week.

Tuesday, February 8, 2011: Manitoba 1, Wilkes-Barre 4 The tail end of four games in five days pinned the road-weary Moose against the AHL's best team. Manitoba had beaten Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday, Feb. 4, but the Penguins played a far more motivated game in Tuesday's rematch as they outshot the visiting Moose 32-19 and scored four unanswered goals en route to a 4-1 win. Rookie Jordan Schroeder scored Manitoba's only goal for his ninth on the season and fourth goal since returning from injury on Jan. 21.

Friday, February 11, 2011: Manitoba 1, San Antonio 2 The Moose began a stretch of six home games over eight nights by hosting the San Antonio Rampage on Friday. Manitoba's Tommy Maxwell scored his fourth goal of the season to open the scoring but the only Moose lead of the game lasted 13 seconds before the visiting Rampage tied it back up with a goal by Viktor Tikhonov. The Russian scored San Antonio's second goal late in the middle frame while Rampage netminder Matt Climie shut the door on the Moose for the remainder of the game.

Saturday, February 12, 2011: Manitoba 5, San Antonio 0 There are 10 players currently on the Moose that have played with Mike Keane. But the whole team appeared to take inspiration from the pre-game ceremony dedicated to the former Moose captain as Manitoba jumped out to a two-goal lead by the 5:07 mark on power play goals by Mario Bliznak and Evan Oberg. There was no looking back from there as the Moose piled on five goals against the Rampage while outshooting the visitors 41-22. Eddie Lack earned his third shutout of the season for Manitoba while team leading scorer Sergei Shirokov totaled four assists in the game.

Vs. Marlies - Feb. 15 & 16 - 7:30 p.m. Vs. Monsters - Feb. 18 & 19 - 7:30 p.m.

This week, Manitoba will try to build on their current three-point lead in the North Division with games at MTS Centre against divisional rivals from Toronto and Lake Erie. The Moose will play 11 games on the road following their series with Lake Erie on Feb. 18 & 19. Their final home game in this stretch on Feb. 19 is Hockey Night in Manitoba when the Moose recognize minor hockey in Winnipeg by wearing the jersey of Gateway Community Centre. Gateway C.C. is being recognized for winning first place in the 2011 Community Jersey Contest.

Sergei Shirokov recorded four assists in Saturday's 5-0 win over San Antonio, the first four point game for a Moose player since Apr. 5/08 (Colby Genoway: 1g, 3a)... Shirokov now has 38 points (16g, 22a) and regained the team's scoring lead... Set Moose franchise record 12-game point streak earlier this season.
