
Monsters Squeeze by Stars with 3-2 Win

Cleveland, OH - The Texas Stars (29-18-3-3, 64 points) were defeated by the Lake Erie Monsters (27-22-3-5, 62 points) 3-2 on Monday night in front of 3,058 fans at Quicken Loans Arena. Monsters goalie Jason Bacashihua (11-13-3) stopped 32 of 34 Stars shots as Lake Erie held on for the victory. Lake Erie's Ryan Stoa scored a power-play goal with 4:01 left in regulation for the eventual game-winning goal. Texas goalie Richard Bachman (19-12-3) stopped 24 of 27 shots in the loss. Stars defenseman Dan Spang and center Dave Bonk each tallied a goal in the defeat, as Texas fell to 13-10-0-1 on the road. The loss marked only the second time all season in which the Stars dropped a one-goal game in regulation. Texas will stay in Lake Erie for a rematch on Wednesday, February 16th at 9:45 AM (CT).
Lake Erie snagged the first goal of the night at 12:24 of the first period. David Van der Gulik found a rebound in the Texas crease for his seventh goal of the year. Monsters Scott Langdon and Ryan Stoa each picked up an assist as Lake Erie moved in front 1-0 through one period of play.
The Monsters expanded their lead in the second period at 8:49. Luke Walker scored after picking up a rebound behind the Texas net and jamming it in off a wraparound. Walker's eighth goal of the season was assisted by Van der Gulik and Matthew Ford for the 2-0 lead. The Stars trimmed the Lake Erie lead in half at 15:18 when defenseman Dan Spang scored off a rebound to make it a 2-1 game. Spang's seventh goal of the year was set up by Toby Petersen and Greg Rallo.
With a late power play, Lake Erie extended its lead to 3-1 at 15:01 of the final frame. Forward Ryan Stoa slipped in a rebound for his 16th goal of the year and a two-goal Monsters lead. Texas cut the Lake Erie lead to 3-2 with ten seconds remaining in regulation. Center Dave Bonk put in a rebound for his first goal with Texas this season. Left wing Mark Derlago and Cody Chupp each had an assist on the final goal of the night.
The Stars continue an eight-game road trip on Wednesday, February 16th at 9:45 PM (CT) against the Lake Erie Monsters. The Stars return home to face the Oklahoma City Barons on Sunday, February 27th at 5:00 PM.
