Durham Bulls News Release
NORFOLK, VA - Bulls catcher Logan Driscoll crushed his first career Triple-A home run in his very first at bat, first baseman Austin Shenton smashed a three-run shot and second baseman Ronny Simon clubbed three hits, while an eight-run opening frame propelled the Norfolk Tides to a 12-9 victory over Durham on Friday night at Harbor Park.
The Tides struck first with an eight-run salvo in the opening frame before adding an additional tally in the second. Driscoll would then go deep in his first Triple-A at-bat in the third to get the Bulls on the board. After two more Norfolk scores in the fifth, Durham would plate a pair of runs in the sixth, highlighted by Simon's RBI double.
The Tides would make it 12-3 in the last of the sixth before the Bulls brought three runs across in a seventh inning that featured a run-scoring double by LF Niko Hulsizer plus an RBI single from DH Diego Infante. Shenton in the next inning would narrow the margin to three with his three-run opposite-field blast to left.
Simon (3-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI) led the Bulls with his three knocks as Shenton (2-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI) added a multi-hit effort of his own. 26 of Shenton's 40 hits with Durham this year have been extra-base hits, including 15 doubles and 11 longballs.
Tides reliever T.J. McFarland earned the victory in support of Baltimore Orioles lefty John Means (4.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO), who pitched with Norfolk as part of an MLB Rehab Assignment, while Tyler Wells (1.0 IP, 1 BB, 1 SO) notched the save. Bulls starting pitcher Anthony Molina (0.0 IP, 5 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 2 BB) suffered the defeat.
The two teams are set to continue their six-game set on Saturday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm. Durham's starting pitcher has not yet been determined, while Norfolk is anticipated to give the nod to RHP Garrett Stallings.
The Bulls return home to Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday, August 29 to begin a six-game homestand with the Nashville Sounds, the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. First pitch is set for 6:35pm.
Tickets for that game and all remaining 2023 Durham Bulls home games are available, and can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com, or by calling 919.956.BULL.
