I-Cubs Come Up Short in Pitchers Duel

Iowa Cubs News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Iowa Cubs (69-52) suffered their third-straight loss to the Indianapolis Indians (58-64) on Friday night from Victory Field with the final score reading 2-1.
Iowa and Indianapolis found themselves in a pitcher's duel as both offenses found runs hard to come by. However, it was the I-Cubs that found themselves trailing early on.
In the bottom of the second Mason Martin brought in a run with a RBI groundout, which gave the Indians a 1-0 lead. Iowa's starter, Caleb Kilian, got in a groove from there and kept the Indianapolis lineup scoreless for the remainder of his outing. Kilian finished with a final line of 6.0 innings pitched, six hits allowed, one earned run, no walks, and seven strikeouts.
The Iowa offense finally broke through in the seventh inning after recording just one hit off Indianapolis pitchers Max Kranick and Kyle Nicolas through the first two-third of the contest. Following a single by P.J. Higgins, who then advanced on a wild pitch, Luis Vazquez evened the game at 1-1 with a base knock to right field.
The tie was broken in the bottom of the eighth with Miguel Andújar recording the go-ahead RBI on a fielder's choice. Quinn Priester then retired the I-Cubs in order to close out the game.
POSTGAME NOTES:
- Caleb Kilian's seven strikeouts on the night tied the season high for the right-hander. He also struck out seven back on July 14 on the road against Columbus.
- Brad Boxberger continued his Major League Rehab assignment and tossed a scoreless inning with one strikeout.
Iowa and Indianapolis will take to the diamond tomorrow evening for game five of the series, with first pitch from Victory Field slated for 6:05 pm CT.
