August 25, 2023 - International League (IL)
Rochester Red Wings News Release
The Rochester Red Wings snapped a short two-game skid with a 6-5 win over Worcester Friday night, tying the series at two games apiece. C Brady Lindsly launched his first career Triple-A home run in the win, while DH Matt Adams hit his 15th to propel an offense that picked up 11 hits.
For the ninth time in the last ten games dating back to 8/13 against Lehigh Valley, the opposing team scored first against the Wings. CF Ceddanne Rafaela singled with one out in the top of the first, and came around to score on a single from 3B Yu Chang after swiping second base.
Rochester answered in the bottom half of the second, kicked off by a single from 1B Jake Noll. C Brady Lindsly launched his first career Triple-A home run three batters later, a 413-foot shot that scored Noll and gave the Wings a 2-1 lead. This comes a night after Jacob Young hit the first homer of his Triple-A career. Worcester evened the score an inning later on Chang's second RBI single of the night, driving in 2B Enmanuel Valdez who reached base after walking on five pitches.
Young and CF Cody Wilson logged back-to-back singles with one out in the fourth. A batter later LF Darren Baker laid down a bunt down the first base side, followed by a throwing error that brought home Young and moved runners to second and third. DH Matt Adams jumped on a 2-2 fastball two batters later, driving it 409 feet to right-center field to give the Wings a 6-2 lead and capped off a four-run fourth. The homer was his 15th of the season, second-most on the team behind Travis Blankenhorn (22).
Worcester cut into the lead in the sixth with a homer of their own, when C Ronaldo Hernandez connected on a two-run shot that trimmed the lead to 6-4. The score remained the same until the top of the ninth when the WooSox notched three straight two-out hits to make the score 6-5. Rochester was able to escape the jam however, earning their first win since Tuesday while evening the series at 2-2.
RHP Cory Abbott made his first appearance with the Wings since 6/1, tossing 2.2 innings Friday night. The San Diego native allowed two earned on three hits while striking out two and walking three. RHP Tommy Romero took the ball in the third, retiring his first eight batters on the way to allowing two earned on two hits over 3.1 innings of work. RHP Luis Reyes and RHP Hobie Harris followed with a scoreless inning apiece, handing the ball to RHP Gerson Moreno in the ninth for his 50th appearance of the season. The Dominican Republic native secured his ninth save of the season after allowing three-straight hits with two outs, allowing one earned.
Moreno is just the fourth Wing in the last 12 seasons since 2011 to appear in 50 games in a season, joining Alberto Baldonado (56 in 2022), Edward Mujica (51 in 2016) and Kyle Waldrop (56 in 2011).
Friday night's Diamond Pro Player of the Game is C Brady Lindsly. The lefty launched his first Triple-A home run as part of a 1-for-4 night at the plate. The homer was the 15th of his career, and first since 7/21 with Harrisburg.
Rochester looks to string together wins tomorrow night, as RHP Jackson Rutledge makes his 10th start of the year against Worcester RHP Grant Gambrell, who is making his Triple-A debut. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
