
Thunder's Pendleton Named EL Pitcher of the Week

(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder announced today that RHP Lance Pendleton has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 25th.
Lance Pendleton, made a pair of starts for the Thunder last week and posted a record of 2-0 with 12 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. The 26-year old made his first appearance of the week on Monday night at the Diamond in Richmond and allowed one hit and four walks while striking out five batters in six scoreless innings of work to lead the Thunder to a 6-0 win against the Flying Squirrels. Pendleton, who is a native of Kingwood, Texas, was even more dominant during his second start of the week on Saturday night at Altoona, striking out seven batters while surrendering just two hits and two walks over seven shutout innings to earn the win in Trenton's 2-0 victory. Pendleton had appeared in 21 games for the Thunder this season, 20 of them starts, and has a record of 9-4 with 100 strikeouts and a 3.49 ERA in 108.1 innings. Lance, who currently leads the league in strikeouts (100), is ranked third in batting average against (.215) and tied for third in wins (9), was selected by the New York Yankees in the fourth round of the 2005 draft after posting a record of 5-3 with a 3.69 ERA in 18 appearances during his junior season at Rice University.
This is the third week this season that a Thunder player has earned a weekly honor, following IF Brandon Laird being named EL Player of the Week for the week ending May 30th and RHP Hector Noesi being named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 6th.
Laird was also named the EL Player of the Month for May.
Joining Pendleton in the weekly EL honors is Bowie Baysox first baseman Joseph Mahoney who hit .556 (15-for-27) with two doubles, five home runs, nine RBI, six runs scored, one walk and a 1.185 slugging percentage while leading the Baysox to a record of 5-2 for the week.
