TONIGHT: The Richmond Flying Squirrels and the Reading Phillies will meet in the opener of a three-game series...The Flying Squirrels had the tying run in scoring position in the eighth and ninth innings but couldn't score as the Baysox earned a series-split with a 4-3 win in the series finale on Sunday night at Prince George's Stadium.
TONIGHT'S STARTERS: Right-hander David Mixon gets the start in the opener of the series for the Flying Squirrels...Earned the win in his last start against Trenton 7/21...Allowed two runs on fie hits in six innings...Struck out four batters and walked three...Stranded six runners on base through his first four innings...Retired eight of the final nine batters that he faced...Recorded seven ground outs and six fly outs...Threw 96 pitches, 57 strikes...Three walks matched a season-high...Has gone at least six innings in 14 of his 20 starts...Has allowed two runs or less in 15 of his 20 outings...Ranks third among starters in the Eastern League in fewest base runners per nine innings 10.67 (145/122.1 IP), is fifth in fewest base walks per nine innings at 1.99 (27BB/122.1 IP) and is third overall in WHIP (1.13)...Is fourth in the Eastern League innings pitched (122.1), is ninth in strikeouts (89) and is 11th in ERA (3.31)...Trying to become just the second pitcher in the Eastern League to 11 wins (Jared Hughes).

Ramirez gets the nod in game one of the series for the Phillies...Received a no-decision in his last start at Erie 7/20...Allowed six runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings...Struck out five batters and walked four...Was the first outing he failed to go at least five innings since joining the R-Phils...Had worked seven innings or more in four of his previous five starts...Began the season with Advanced-A Clearwater...Went 4-3 with a 4.06 ERA in 11 starts...Struck out 55 batters and walked 17 in 64 1/3 innings...Left-handed batters are hitting .305 (58-for-190) against while right-handed batters are hitting just .237 (54-for-228) off of him...Acquired from the Seattle Mariners in along with right-hander Phillippe Aumont and outfielder Tyson Gillies in exchange for left-hander Cliff Lee 12/16/09...Entered the 2010 season rated as the #18 prospect in the Seattle Mariners organization according to Baseball America...Went 8-12 with a 5.12 ERA in 28 games, including 27 starts with Advanced-A High Dessert in 200...Struck out 111 batters and walked 53 in 142 1/3 innings of work...Went 5-6 with a 6.78 ERA in 17 games including 16 starts at home...Was 3-4 with a 3.09 ERA in 11 starts on the road...Spent all of 2008 with Low-A Wisconsin and went 6-9 with a 4.14 ERA in 25 games including 22 starts...Struck out 113 batters and walked 38 in 124 innings...Opponents hit .239 against him...Made domestic debut with Short Season-A Everett in 2007...Went 3-7 with a 4.30 ERA in 15 starts with the AquaSox...Struck out 73 batters and walked 43 in 75 1/3 innings...Opponents hit .211 against him...Originally signed by the Seattle Mariners as a non-drafted free agent 7/2/05.
THE WEATHER MAN: Third baseman Conor Gillaspie has hits in nine of his last 10 games including a season-long seven-game hit streak...In 20 games this month, he is hitting .364 (24-for-66); however, only four of his 24 hits in July have gone for extra bases (two doubles and two triples)...He has walked nine times and has struck out eight times so far this month...Gillaspie is hitting .309 (54-for-175) in 46 games on the road while batting just .241 (41-for-170) in 48 games at home.
UNBUCKLING THE BELT: In 96 games combined between Advanced-A San Jose and Double-A Richmond, first baseman Brandon Belt leads all of minor league baseball in batting average (.382) and on-base percentage (.481) and is third in slugging percentage (.644) and is fifth in hits (131)...The 22-year-old has reached base safely in each of his last 18 games.
WALK AWAY: Outfielder Darren Ford has walked five times in his last three games including drawing a season-high three walks on Friday night...He had walked only six times in his first 17 games this month...Overall on the season, Ford is averaging 0.37 walks per game...The 24-year-old has hits in each of his last four contests and is 7-for-14 over that stretch with two triples, three RBI, and four runs scored...Richmond is 7-0 when Ford scores multiple runs in a game.
DOUBLETREE DOWNTOWN DOUBLE PLAYS: The Richmond Flying Squirrels have turned 127 double plays in 101 games including six on 5/7 in Harrisburg...The Flying Squirrels have not gone more than three games without a double play this season...The club leads the Eastern League in double plays turned.
CFS STAT OF THE NIGHT: Richmond had to settle for a series split after dropping the final two games of the four-game set at Bowie...The Flying Squirrels were seeking their first back-to-back series victories since taking series from Harrisburg and Bowie 5/7-5/12...The club dropped to 13-16 in series finales.
