Youngstown Phantoms News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, OH- The Youngstown Phantoms fell to the Bloomington Thunder Thursday night in Illinois by a final score of 4-2. After jumping out to a two goal lead in the first ten minutes of the contest, the Phantoms were held scoreless the rest of the way.
Lukas Craggs opened up the scoring for Youngstown, pouncing on a Bloomington turnover and ripping a wrist shot past Hayden Lavinge for his 11th tally of the year. Craggs has now scored a goal in three games.
Less than two minutes later, defenseman Ryan Shea would double the Phantoms lead, blowing a slap shot past Lavigne for his second goal of the season. Shea's clapper was assisted by Patrick Kramer and Chase Pearson.
The two sides would play the next 30 minutes scoreless, until Thunder Captain Jake Slaker snuck a wrist shot past Ryan Bednard to cut the Youngstown lead in half. Then, with less than 30 seconds left in the second frame, Patrick Curry scored a power play goal to tie the contest heading into the final period.
Unfortunately for the Phantoms, Curry was just heating up. With a little over five minutes left in regulation, Curry tallied another power play goal to give the Thunder a 3-2 advantage. Curry would add an empty-netter in the final seconds to earn his first hat-trick of the year.
Phantoms netminder Ryan Bednard turned aside 44 of 47 Bloomington shot attempts.
Youngstown will take on Bloomington again Friday night. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. eastern time.
