Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

WATERLOO, Iowa - Waterloo goaltender Cale Morris led the way for the Black Hawks, notching his second shutout in as many weekends, leading the home team to a 3-0 win over the Dubuque Fighting Saints on Friday night at Young Arena.

Morris, a Notre Dame commit, made 28 saves en route to his second shutout of the season, and second in as many games. He watched his penalty kill take care of business early in the third period, as the Fighting Saints operated with over 90 seconds of 5-on-3 power play time. Waterloo saw a similar opportunity go by the wayside in the second period.

He got some help from the goal posts, but Morris finished the game strong, and earned his 15th win of the season.

The homestanding Hawks scored a goal in every period, and capitalized on Fighting Siants turnovers. Newcomer Ryan Lohin scored off of a picturesque Georgs Golovkovs dish to make it 1-0 at the 14:26 mark of the first period.

Colin Saccoman caught a lucky break in the midst of an odd-man rush. His backhander was turned aside off the blocker hand of Hunter Miska, but the wild rebound caught the helmet of Brett Boeing and bounced into the vacant net to make it 2-0 Waterloo.

Golovkovs continued his outstanding night with a goal of his own late in the third period. Dubuque tried to garner some sort of scoring push by pulling Miska for the extra attacker, but were unable to do so.

As with the last meeting with these two teams, plenty of penalties were spread around. 62 minutes and 20 total penalties were doled out in the shutout win for the Waterloo Black Hawks. Both teams went 0-for-6 on their respective chances.

The Fighting Saints return to action to play Dupaco Cowbell Cup rival Cedar Rapids at The Stable on Saturday starting at 7:00 p.m. Join all of the action by tuning in to the radio home of the Saints, Super Hits 106.1 FM, starting at 6:50.
