Lincoln Stars News Release

Lincoln, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars extended their home winning streak to eight games with a 3-2 shootout win against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in the Ice Box on Friday night.

Ross Colton made it 1-0 for the RoughRiders late in the opening period when he scored at 18:52 with a wrist shot from the left circle. Sam Sternschein picked up the assist.

Both teams benefited from a jolt shortly after when a net-front collision resulted in 50 minutes of penalties between the teams.

Colton scored on the power play 35 seconds into the second to give Cedar Rapids a 2-0 lead, but the Stars powered back to equalize before the second intermission.

Dylan Woolf capped a high-flying shift from Ethen Frank, Biagio Lerario and Ryan Poehling with his second goal of the season at 2:32 of the second. Lerario and Luke Jaycox earned assists.

Three minutes later, Dominick Mersch buried his fifth of the season, receiving a slick pass from Sam Kauppila to make it 2-2. Jack Badini had the secondary assist.

Neither team scored in the third, sending the game into overtime.

The teams traded chances in the extra period, but neither could bury the game winner.

Both teams scored in the first round of the shootout, but it wasn't until the sixth frame when Ethen Frank lifted a shot over the left shoulder of RoughRiders goalie Ben Blacker that the Stars took the victory.

The shootout winner marked Frank's second of the season.

Peyton Jones finished with 21 saves - including a huge breakaway stop on Ross Colton in the final moments of overtime.

The Stars return to the Ice Box on April 1 against the Waterloo Black Hawks. For tickets and more information log on to lincolnstars.com.
