Wichita Thunder News Release
Evansville, IN - Trailing 2-0 after the first period, Wichita (14-33-6-6) scored four-unanswered to pull away from Evansville (22-26-6-2) on Sunday afternoon for a 4-2 victory at the Ford Center.
Four different players found the net for the Thunder with Domenic Alberga and Kenton Miller leading the way with a goal and an assist each.
The IceMen hopped out to a two-goal advantage in the first period. Just after a penalty expired, Tyson Fawcett fired a slap shot from the blue line that got through Sean Bonar to make it 1-0. Nathan Moon increased the lead to 2-0 as he crashed the net and put home a rebound at 17:51.
In the second, Wichita reversed the tables with two goals in the frame. Michael Neal tipped home a shot from Martin Nemcik on the power play at 1:20 to make it 2-1. Alberga tied the game at 11:07 off a face-off win from Miller, who got the only assist on the tally.
Wichita carried the momentum over into the third period, finding the net twice to take its first lead of the contest. Dean Chelios pounced on a rebound at 3:59 and gave the Thunder their second power play tally of the game. Just 55 seconds later, Andy Huff fed Miller a one-timer across the top of the circles and he buried it for his 13th of the season to make it 4-2.
Wichita wins its third game in a row, which is a season-high. The Thunder fell behind by a 2-0 margin for the second night in a row and came back to win. Alberga has three goals in his last two games. Sean Bonar earns his second win of the weekend, stopping 24 of 26 shots. Matt Zenzola takes the loss, stopping 26 of 30 shots he faced.
Wichita was 2-for-5 on the man advantage. Evansville went 0-for-7 on the power play.
Wichita finishes its seven-game road trip next weekend with a pair of games against the Allen Americans.
