Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Duluth, GA - Ryan Rashid and Scott Fleming each scored twice while Alain Valiquette shined in net for the second straight day as the Greenville Swamp Rabbits (26-24-7), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, earned a 4-1 victory against the Atlanta Gladiators (29-22-7) at Infinite Energy Arena on Sunday.
Valiquette (3-0-0) made 42 saves on 43 shots and Josh Nicholls also contributed with an assist to extend his point streak to a team-high five games.
Rashid opened the scoring at 11:37 of the first period with a power-play goal for his 11th tally of the season. With Garry Nunn in the box for tripping, Garett Bembridge gathered the puck at the left half wall and fed a pass to Rashid in front, where the second-year pro turned and tucked a forehand shot inside the left post past the blocker of Kent Patterson.
Less than three minutes later, Rashid made it 2-0 with a rebound goal at even strength. Joe Houk carried the puck down the right wing, cut towards the circle and fired a shot that was turned away by Patterson. However, the second-chance caromed right to Rashid for the put back at the 14:02 mark.
The Gladiators got one back just 2:02 into the middle frame when Justin Buzzeo redirected a centering feed from Brock Higgs in the corner past Valiquette's blocker.
Fleming answered less than four minutes later to regain Greenville's two-goal advantage. Kodie Curran created the chance from the left point with a pin-point pass to Fleming at the doorstep, who guided home a one-time feed with Patterson well out of position at 5:52 of the middle frame.
Fleming made it 4-1 with his team-leading 17th goal of the season at 4:51 of the third period. Michael St. Croix helped a pass to the doorstep where Fleming gathered the puck and elevated a shot over a falling Patterson.
Greenville finished the game 1-for-2 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. Patterson halted 24 shots in the loss, which was Atlanta's fourth straight setback overall (0-3-1).
The Gladiators outshot the Swamp Rabbits 43-28.
