Comeback Falls Short as Jackals Edge Beast

Brampton Beast News Release
BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - The Brampton Beast clawed their way back from a two-goal deficit to tie the game early in the second period but a third period tally from Elmira Jackals forward Tyler Currier proved to be the difference as the Jackals defeated the Beast 3-2 at the Powerade Centre on Sunday afternoon.
For the second straight game against Elmira, the Beast found themselves outshot by a large margin in the opening frame. Beast starter Kenny Reiter faced nine first period shots and appeared sharp in the early going until Elmira's Mark Bennett got the Jackals on the board, deking his way out of the corner and beating Reiter with a low shot at 16:41.
The Jackals continued to press early in the second period and were able to push their lead to 2-0 as Matt Garbowsky found Zach Cohen with some space in front and he beat Reiter low for his 10th tally of the season just 1:25 into the frame.
The Beast responded with a ferocious tenacity and responded quickly with a goal of their own. Forward Colin Murray was in the right place at the right time to accept a pass in the slot and snapped a quick shot beyond Jackals starter Shane Owen to get the Beast on the board at 3:39.
Beast newcomer Jesse Stoughton recorded an assist on Murray's goal for his first professional point.
Brampton continued to press and tied the game less than four minutes later. Mike Hammond showed great poise with the puck in circling the net and located Steve Mele in front of the goal. Mele chipped a backhand shot over the glove of Owen for his first goal as a member of the Beast at 7:01.
The game remained tied until the second half of the third period, when Tyler Currier sent a shot on goal under coverage from the top of the circle. Reiter got a piece of the puck and was almost able to turn and make the save with his stick, but the puck trickled over the line at 11:20, giving the Jackals a lead they wound not relinquish.
Owen earned his second straight win over the Beast with 16 saves, while Reiter stood tall and gave his team a chance to win with a superb 29-save effort.
Notes: The Beast finished the game 0-for-2 on the power play and a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. Colin Murray has now recorded goals in three straight games for the Beast and has four points in four games since joining the club.
The Beast will now hit the road to face the Wheeling Nailers on Tuesday, March 8 at 7:05 PM at WesBanco Arena. The Beast then return home on Thursday, March 10 to start a three-game set against the Orlando Solar Bears. Single game tickets are now available, starting at $16.25.
