Manchester, N.H. - The Manchester Monarchs couldn't hold on to a two-goal lead in the third period, and fell in a shootout to the Orlando Solar Bears, 3-2, Sunday afternoon at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

Despite dropping the game, the Monarchs (36-16-2-5) took four out of six games against the Solar Bears (25-23-3-5) this season, notching a 4-0-1-1 record against their conference foes.

"I thought we played well at the start, but we got away from our game plan in the second and third periods," Head Coach, Rich Seeley, said. "We had some opportunities to put the game away in overtime, but just couldn't get it done. We have to put this one behind us, get rested up, and get ready for Adirondack on Tuesday night."

The Monarchs opened the scoring at 8:48 in the first period on a power-play goal from Zac Larraza. Michael Boivin found Larraza with a cross-ice pass in the slot for a one-time, five-hole re-direct past Orlando goaltender, Ryan Massa, for his 14th tally of the season.

The Monarchs extended their lead less than a minute later when Joey Diamond netted his 16th goal of the season at 9:45. After a pass from Matt MacKenzie to the Solar Bears blue line, Diamond skated down the right boards, brought the puck through the slot and waited out Massa, scoring from the goal line to Massa's right.

The Solar Bears bounced back with Erik Bradford's 6th goal of the season at 12:03 in the third period. Bradford found the loose puck from a rebound off of a Rory Rawlyk shot from the point, and flipped the puck into the yawning cage to make the game, 2-1.

The Solar Bears evened the game at 18:27 in the third period on the 13th goal of the season for Rylan Schwartz. Patrick Watling found Schwartz inside the left circle, and Schwartz was able to wrist a top-shelf tally past a down-and-out Carr.

The game could not be decided in regulation or overtime and headed to a shootout, where Nicklas Lindberg scored the lone goal in the third round of the shootout, ending the game, 3-2.

The Monarchs return to action for a divisional match-up against the Adirondack Thunder on Tuesday March 8 (7 p.m.) at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

Notes

Zac Larraza scored his 25th professional point in his 38th professional game

Joey Diamond notched his 75th career point on his first period goal
