Thunder Drops Two on Road

The Wichita Thunder suffered two road losses last week, beginning with a 6-2 setback on Thursday against the Odessa Jackalopes. The Thunder trailed just 3-2 heading into the third, but Odessa scored three times in the final period to close out the game. Troy Schwab and Lance Galbraith had the Wichita goals. Peter Delmas took the loss, saving 22 of 28. Wichita took just four penalty minutes in the contest.

Wichita lost 4-1 to the Allen Americans on Friday night in Allen, TX. Allen outscored the Thunder 3-1 in the first period and iced the game with an empty net goal late in the third. Kory Scoran accounted for Wichita's lone goal. Marc-Antoine Gelinas was strong in net, saving 31 of 34 in the loss.

Team Defense

The Thunder is second in the CHL in fewest shots against per game at 28.7. Wichita is also fifth in the league on the penalty kill at 85.2. The Thunder has also shown great discipline this season, averaging just 18.2 PIM per game, fourth fewest in the league.

Taking Chances

The Thunder has outshot its opponent in 10 of 13 games this year with a total margin of 403 to 373.

Gelinas Emerging

21-year old goaltender Marc-Antoine Gelinas ranks fourth in the league with a 2.17 goals against average in six games while posting a .924 save percentage. Gelinas had a personal four-game winning streak snapped on Friday in a tough loss at Allen. The true rookie has allowed three or fewer goals in all four of his starts in a Thunder sweater and owns one of only seven shutouts in the entire CHL this season.

League Leaders

Jesse Bennefield is tied for 11th in the CHL with 17 points. Steven Kaunisto ranks third in plus/minus at +11. Jason Goulet is tied for third with six fighting majors. Marc-Antoine Gelinas is fourth in goals against average at 2.17.

League Parity

The Thunder enters the week tied for seventh place in the Turner Conference with 13 points. The top eight teams in the former CHL North are separated by just six points. Wichita has its first chance against Conference-leader Colorado this weekend with a home-and-home series Friday and Saturday.

Injury Update

Defenseman Jason Goulet has been scratched each of the last two games with an injury and is out indefinitely. Defenseman Daniel Tetrault and center Matt Hubbauer are on the 10-Day IR.

Up Next

The Thunder plays three games in four nights this week. Wichita returns home Wednesday to host the Mississippi RiverKings at 7:05 p.m. The first 5,000 fans into the INTRUST Bank Arena receive a Hockey Bingo card with great prizes awarded throughout the night for specific bingo combinations. Students can also receive $10 Yellow and Green level seating by showing their student ID, courtesy of America's Pub.
