Fort Wayne, IN | Monday, Nov. 22, 2010 --- The Komets will attempt to get on the winning track this week with three games scheduled for week seven of the 2010-11 CHL campaign including the traditional Fort Wayne Thanksgiving game. Last week the Komets dropped both home games played and completed week six riding a five-game winless streak.
THE WEEK AHEAD Thursday, Nov. 25 -- Quad City (8-5-0) at Fort Wayne (2-8-1), 7:30pm ET The Komets will host their 49th consecutive Thanksgiving night game Thursday at 7:30. The Quad City Mallards will make their third Thanksgiving holiday appearance on Coliseum ice where they previously lost visits in 2004 and 2005. The Komets are 48-30-16 all-time on Thanksgiving in Fort Wayne and have won nine of the last dozen Turkey Day games. The Mallards will skate at Tulsa, Texas Tuesday before making the trip back north for their first of six visits in Fort Wayne this year. Thursday's meeting will be the second of ten between the K's and Quad City. The Komets were doubled-up 4-2 at Quad City in the first meeting of the season Oct. 29. The Mallards won all three games last week and ride a four-game winning streak into this week's play.
Friday, Nov. 26 -- Fort Wayne at Evansville (7-6-1), 8:35pm ET The Komets will make their second of four trips to Swonder Arena in Evansville Friday. It's the third meeting of 11 this year after the Komets dropped a 3-2 decision to the IceMen at Evansville in their last meeting Nov. 12. Evansville will visit Dayton for Thanksgiving night before returning home to welcome the Komets Friday. The IceMen split a par of games last week and are 1-2-0 in their last three games and 4-2-0 in their last six.
Saturday, Nov. 27 -- Quad City at Fort Wayne, 7:30pm ET The Komets and Mallards face each other in a rematch Saturday night at 7:30. The Mallards return to Fort Wayne after hosting Bloomington Friday. It will be the fourth game for Quad City in five nights. The Mallards enter week seven in fourth place in the Turner Conference following first-place Colorado by three points.
About last week The Komets extended their losing string to five games dropping both home games played for the week. Friday the Arizona Sundogs nipped the K's 3-2. Saturday the Dayton Gems edged the Komets 2-1. Firsts: Center Neil Musselwhite made his pro debut Friday vs Arizona scoring his first pro point (assist). Defenseman Steven Delisle, on assignment from Columbus, skated his first pro game Friday vs Arizona. Defenseman Brandon Warner and winger Kaleigh Schrock scored their first goals of the season Friday vs Arizona. Defenseman Bobby Phillips tallied his first goal of the season Saturday vs Dayton. Special K's: The Komets were successful on 11 of 12 penalty kills for the week to rank second in the CHL with a penalty kill rating of 85.9%. Drawing a crowd: The Komets drew 14,111 fans to the two home games for the week and lead the CHL with an average attendance of 8,202. Fort Wayne ranks third overall in minor league hockey attendance after five home games. One goal difference: Seven of the 11 Fort Wayne games have been decided by one goal (2-4-1), including both games played last week. The Komets rank eighth in the CHL with a 2.91 goals-against average per game.
