Thunder Blanked On Opening Night

WICHITA, KS - The Wichita Thunder lost 5-0 to the Amarillo Gorillas at the Kansas Coliseum on Friday night.

Four Gorillas had multi points, including Jake Morissette who scored two goals and an assist. Goaltender Mike Brown earned an 18-save shutout.

Morissette broke a 2-2 tie at 12:53 in the second period, finishing off a feed from Stuart MacRae that went past the right of Tim Boron. Boron was playing for the first time since January 30th. At 14:44, it was MacRae who scored on a feed from Morissette to make it 2-0 Gorillas.

The Gorillas broke it open with the three-goal third period, which included Morissette's second of the night. David Nimmo and Joe Guenther tallied the other goals. Anthony Battaglia earned three assists. Wichita went 0-7 on the power play, and managed only two shots in the third period. Boron stopped 23 of 28 in the loss.

The Thunder conlcudes its opening weekend on Saturday when the Mississippi RiverKings visit the Coliseum. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. For tickets, call the Thunder office at (316) 264-GOAL.
