
Bucks Thrash Mudbugs 6-1 In Opener

BOSSIER CITY, LA- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League opened the 2009-10 season Friday night with a 6-1 win against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at the CenturyTel Center. The Bucks picked up their first-ever regular season win (1-9) in Bossier.
Lance Monych and and Reigning CHL Rookie of the Year Darryl Smith each had two goals and an assist, while Jeff Bes returned to the ice and picked up a goal and two assists. J.P Levassuer picked up the win in net as he stopped 20 of 21 Mudbugs shots.
The Bucks would jump out in front of the Mudbugs on the power-play 10:43 into the first period when Bes scored a goal in his first game back. Bes sent a slap shot in from the high slot. Team Captain Adam Rivet and Jarred Mohr picked up assists.
The Bucks outshot the Mudbugs 7-6 in the first period.
Laredo would score twice in the second period to take a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes. Smith scored on a breakaway 13:24 into the period to give the Bucks a 2-0 lead. Rivet (2) and Bes picked up assists on Smith's breakaway tally.
Igor Agarunov would poke in a loose puck right in front of the Mudbugs net to give the Bucks a 3-0 lead with 3:07 left in the second. Evan Schwabe and Mohr (2) picked up the assists.
Laredo outshot Bossier 22-6 in the second period.
The Bucks would score three times in the third period en route to their largest win ever over the Mudbugs.
Monych picked up his second goal of the night when he struck on the power-play just 1:15 into the third period. Cody Hamilton and Mike Looby picked up assists.
Bossier cut the Bucks lead to 4-1 when Joe Zapalla scored 14:19 into the third.
Monych put the Bucks up 5-1 when he scored from the slot, with Bes and Smith picking up assists.
Smith capped the scoring when he made it 6-1 with 3:51 left in the third period. Monych and Robin Richards picked up assists.
Decaro took the loss in net for the Mudbugs as he stopped 34 of 40 Bucks shots. Laredo outshot Bossier 40-21.
The Bucks will travel to play at Rio Grande Valley Saturday night at the Dodge Arena. Game time is 7:35pm.

The Bucks, in conjunction with Fox 39 Laredo, announced that "Bucks Insider" will debut this Saturday (Oct 17th) at 11:30am on Fox 39.
"Bucks insider" is a weekly television show hosted by "The Voice of the Bucks" Bryan Benway, that will feature exclusive inteviews with Bucks coaches, players and fans.
"We are very excited to debut the show this week, I think everyone will enjoy it," Benway said. "The concept was brought to us during the summer and we jumped at the chance to do it."
This week's debut show will feature in-depth interviews with Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski, Two-Time CHL MVP Jeff Bes, and reigning CHL Rookie of the Year Darryl Smith.
