Orlando Solar Bears News Release
Orlando, FL - F Taylor Matson picked up three points on one goal and two assists to lead the Solar Bears to a 4-2 victory over the Gwinnett Gladiators at the Amway Center on Friday night.
The Solar Bears grabbed a 1-0 lead at 7:14 of the first period when D Bryce Aneloski blasted a shot from the right circle and F Tyler Murovich tipped it through the five hole of G Mathiue Corbeil. Orlando doubled their advantage less than two minutes later, as at 8:31 Aneloski took a cross ice pass from Matson and ripped a slap shot inside the left post to double the lead to 2-0. The Solar Bears took the lead into the second period.
Halfway through the second frame, the Gladiators cut the advantage in half. F Brendan Walker slapped a bouncing puck from the neutral zone faceoff dot inside the left post to get Gwinnett on the board. Cepis restored the two goal lead with a power play goal when he one-timed the puck from the top of the right circle with traffic in front of the net as Orlando took a 3-1 lead. Gwinnett answered back before the end of the frame when F Evan Bloodoff bounced a puck from the slot past G Cody Reichard to cut the Orlando lead to 3-2 after forty minutes of play.
Late in the final stanza, the Solar Bears regained their two goal cushion. With 3:14 left to play, F Taylor Matson carried the puck into the zone along the right wing and fired a shot that popped off the pad of Corbeil and over the line to give Orlando the 4-2 lead. It stood as the final goal of the contest, as the Solar Bears improved to 5-0-0 against Gwinnett on home ice this season in the win.
