ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, back-to-back Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, announced that defenseman Jake Newton has been called up to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League.

Newton, 24, has seen 36 games with the Reign this season and leads all ECHL defensemen with 12 goals and has added 17 assists for the second-most points by a defenseman league with 29. The San Jacinto, Calif. native had a six-game point streak starting on Dec. 6 through Dec. 21. During that streak, the defenseman tallied one goal and four assists.

This is Newton's first AHL appearance this season but his third since turning pro in 2010 when he played with the Syracuse Crunch. The following year, Newton split his time between the Lake Erie Monsters (AHL) and the Allen Americans (CHL).

Newton has 12 career AHL points (3g, 9a) in 79 games between Syracuse and Lake Erie. Bridgeport Sound Tigers are the AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders.
