Three-Goal Third Lifts Jackals Over Nailers

Elmira Jackals News Release

ELMIRA, NY - Maxime Bosiclair's goal 2:56 into the final period snapped a 2-2 tie and propelled the Elmira Jackals to their third straight win, a 5-2 decision over the Wheeling Nailers Monday night at First Arena in front of a St.Patrick's Night crowd of 2,895 fans. The win cushioned the Jackals lead over second place Reading to three points with the clubs closing out their season series Friday in Elmira.

Despite a staggering 28-9 shots advantage after forty minutes, the Jackals found themselves in a 2-2 game and in need of a lift when Boisclair delivered. Cleaning up on a blocked Bobby Robins shot, Bosiclair snapped in his third goal in four games with Elmira past Nailers netminder Curtis Darling (36 saves) to put the in front for good.

Robins netted his 17th of the year with 5:06 left in the opening period to get the scoring started. Sending a hard wrister through Darling, the puck trickled loose and snuck across the goal line as Elmira got on the board first for a 13th consecutive game. The goal extended Robins' point streak to six games as it did for Brett Pilkington (two assists), who assisted on the play.

The Nailers tied the game at 1-1 when Seamus Young converted a Kevin Croxton back door feed into his ninth goal of the year at 12:22 while working the power play.

The deadlock last all of 40 seconds when rookie Brian Bicek, skating in just his fourth game with Elmira, picked up a hard dump-in off the end wall and flipped a close-in backhander over the glove of Darling to regain the lead at 2-1.

With that lead intact heading towards the second intermission, the Jackals defense was caught flat footed as Justin Chwedoruk wheeled into the slot off an Aaron Clarke pass and an opportunity to tie the contest.

Pulling the defense to him and making Jackals goaltender Ervins Mustukovs commit, Chwedoruk then slipped a feed back to Clarke in the left circle. With a wide open net, Clarke buried his 13th of the season to tie the game 2-2 with 8.7 seconds left in the period.

Following Boisclair's go-ahead goal early in the third, Pierre-Luc Faubert finally gave the Jackals a two-goal lead and some much needed breathing room halfway through the period. Failing on a second period penalty shot, Faubert made good on a Bicek centering feed at 10:07 for his 25th of the year and a 4-2 advantage.

Trevor Hendrikx capped off the scoring his 8th of the season, a power play strike, at 13:04. Hendrikx deked a penalty killer off balance in the high slot, stepped around him and rifled in a rising shot for Elmira's only man-up goal in six tries Monday night.

The Jackals out shot Wheeling 41-18 and Mustukovs finished with 16 saves in earning his third straight win and his fifth overall (5-1-1).

Elmira continues its five-game homestand against Dayton Thursday night at First Arena (7:05 p.m.). Tickets are on sale at all Ticketmaster locations including the Gray Street box office - First Arena, www.ticketmaster.com, or charge-by-phone at 722-3711 or 734-PUCK (7825).
